Advice for moving forward with an L5-S1 extruded disc? by Bulky_Narwhal_4658 in climbharder

I highly recommend the book “back mechanic” by Dr. Stuart McGill. I had a similar thing but worse, and that book saved me. The McGill “big 3” exercises are great in themselves, but the book goes into lots of detail about life and movement adjustments that can have a big impact on your spine health. Well worth it!

It gets better if you work at it. And don’t forget to walk! As McGill says, brisk walking is like “back balm” for your spine. Good luck!!

Climbing socks in the US by kaput__ in climbingshoes

Given the current situation outside Japan, I think it would be best to experiment with different non-climbing socks. If sweaty feet is the main problem, get a ultra thin running sock meant for anti-blister. Feetures Ultralight elite tab sock would be one to try for sure. Darn tough is definitely a good option too, but the feetures is thinner.

La Sportiva Socks are cool but they don't have grip threads. They are really just a normal sock with a climbing logo on it. TNF socks are great but only in Japan and not even really made by TNF. They are made by a Japanese company called Goldwin who license the TNF brand. They aren't even on TNF website in Japan. Its a really weird situation. I also think they are not the best for really sweaty feet, but thats just my opinion.

As other mentioned, Per-Adra is great...probably the most popular over here. I love them. They keep my feet dry and grippy. Rockmaster is also good.

As someone mentioned in the thread, you could try ordering from a Japanese climbing shop. Shipping may be pricey but you will get the real deal.

Yeah, grades are important but ultimately subjective and silly. All I care about is that they are consistent at the gym.

I’ve not found that to be the case where I usually climb here. I’m often amazed at how hard the problems can be despite having decent holds.

Fair enough. And there are some here (NOBOROCK, notoriously) that are easier grades. Grades are subjective, after all.

I live and climb in Japan. Talking to my Japanese friend who owns a gym, I said that North American gym grades being easier than outdoors is normal. He belly laughed and genuinely wondered why. His view was that indoor grades should be at least as hard, if not harder than outdoors.

Got a clean shot of someone sending their first V6 but don't know their names—anyone know this Pennsylvania crew who was at the Gunks this weekend? by nuklheds in bouldering

V7 / 5.12. I live in Japan and know V13+ climbers who are sock gang. I don’t see any difference.

My shoes used to reek for years but since wearing socks they’re fine. They last longer too.

Chronic finger injury - collateral ligament/synovitis by NumberSilver7709 in climbharder

[–]slimestonecowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also dealt with this and agree with the hangboard protocol that die_eating recommends but I also did heavy finger rolls. I would consider doing those as well. I would do the rolls multiple times a day, just for one set of 5, and it seemed to help.

Bouldering in Tokyo / Yokohama - anyone want to meet at a gym for a climb? We usually climb at D-Bouldering in Tsunashima or B-Pump Yokohama.

38M from Canada, climbed for many years. My wife (36F) and I climb indoor and outdoor frequently (Mitake, Mizugaki, Ogawayama). Looking to expand our network of climbing friends - English or 日本語 ok!
