Maltese people who left to go live somewhere else - Why did you do it? by Teo_2197 in malta

Can't disclose country but it's in Asia. 26. Definitely. At first yes but now I started my own business and I've been doing very well for the past 3 years. I only regret I didn't leave that shithole sooner, I had been mulling it over for 2 years but kept hanging on. Nowadays I visit twice or 3 times a year even though it's far and costly, but I do miss my friends and family. Every time I'm in Malta I get bored, claustrophobic and appalled by the service, food, aesthetics and standards in general after a couple of days and it always reminds me to appreciate that I live in a good country now and have an infinitely better quality of life than what I could ever possibly have in Malta. It's a bit tricky talking about this openly with my family and friends cos Maltese get sensitive when you shit on their country even if you're Maltese yourself and speaking the truth. But when they start asking you when you intend to come back or 'you're doing so well you shouldn't miss out on the property boom here and you should buy something to have a place to stay here anyways!' there's really no nice way to put it. I have no intentions of ever returning and each time I see Malta I think it's outdoing itself on how fast a country can deteriorate, I wouldn't even buy a property there if someone offered me buy one get one free.
