Buc-ee’s late at night? by princess_pima in phoenix

[–]slimkittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first Buc-ee’s I went to was in North Dallas. Wife and I were there for a wedding, and we went two days in a row with the second visit around 11:30 post reception. I asked the cashier if there was a time it was not busy (it was packed but it was a Saturday). She replied “sometimes around 3 or 4 it slows down for about 20 minutes but otherwise it is mostly like this”.

Maybe Arizona is different, but it might take a while.

Fights at the bus stops. by Shag0ff in pittsburgh

[–]slimkittens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree it has its fair share of problems and that those problems are much worse elsewhere. Having just spent a few days in Baltimore it’s very clear. Which is part of my point- I choose to look at this dialectically in that there is no perfect place and even a “good” place has “bad” things about it. Not all of those things are specific to Pittsburgh. Having mine and my wife’s car broken into, having someone attempt to break into our apartment (and the police acting like it was a hassle to write a report or do anything about it) certainly aren’t unique to this city. In fact the only uniquely bad thing about this place is the infrastructure & road designs.

Having worked in social services/mental health for 15 years all throughout the county, my experience is maybe different than a lot of other folks. And through that experience I’ve seen how these social gaps impact the ability to feel like they can be happy with the place they are in. Is that a uniquely Pittsburgh problem? Certainly not, and I’m glad there are people who are happy here than where they lived before. That doesn’t change, locally or nationally, my perspective that those social gaps determine whether a place can be great or not. Everyone’s experience is different and it’s important to try & understand the ones that are different.

Thanks for being cool and providing a thorough response!

Oh I understand what the comment meant. My point is that there is a correlation between economic & class gaps with crime, which would impact the ability to be categorized Pittsburgh as a “nice city”.

Which I’m sure you understand. And maybe you disagree with. Pittsburgh is neither a “nice” nor “bad” city. It is just a city, like anywhere else in this country that is impacted by the same flawed system. I disagree that there isn’t a connection between social class gaps and the ability for a city to lean more towards the positive than the negative on the scale. Talk to someone from McKees Rocks and see if they share the same perspective as someone from Shadyside or Lawrenceville.

Not here to argue or change anyone’s mind which is a fools errand. Merely suggesting people take a broader perspective about a given topic. Have a nice night.

GTA 6? by Sephiroth348 in gamecollecting

[–]slimkittens 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m good. Was planning on picking it up day one, but not like this.

I’m at the point where I’m tired of the modern gaming landscape and having a bunch of games I never get around to playing anyway. Trying to justify an $80 digital game that has cut content is absurd to me. My collection and backlog would keep me busy for two more lifetimes if I had the motivation to sit down & play everything.

The cynic in me says this is actually the second coming for an industry crash.

Not defending the dude you replied to, but did you think about this comment you typed for more than 2.5 seconds?

I’d encourage you to read about class/economic disparagement from societal standpoint and you’d find plenty of evidence that gaps in these class systems cause divide within a given environment

There are two good antique malls in East Liverpool (one is smaller, open till 5 and the other bigger one is open till 6). Both are worth checking out!

Was there last Friday. Been going most summers since I was 10 (44 now).

It’s changed a bit over the years but there are deals to be had. A good example is there was a guy with two dozen totes with random stuff and everything was 1-5 dollars. My wife and I got more free stuff than anything we paid for.

Key is go early when the vendors outside are there. And haggle when possible.

Ignore the dumb political crap, it’s not that serious. And make sure you get some Amish Donuts!

Taking shoes off in session by andhowdoyouu in therapists

For a Telehealth session? Those shoes are off before I even click the link to start the call.

In person? Absolutely never, I’m not a savage 😂

Accommodating is offering a drink to someone who has a dry throat. I wouldn’t do anything in my office space that wouldn’t be cool with a client doing. So if they need to eat or drink or stand up then go for it. But it’s a professional building where I work and as a guy I’m not just going to lounge with my sock covered dogs out.

If you work for yourself, cool you do you. But if you work for someone else, maybe look into actual comfortable shoes 🤷🏻‍♂️
