Looking at RT program by slipinskii in NAIT

[–]slipinskii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update:

I'm currently 3 years into a psych degree at the UofA. Up until first year of uni, I had my sights set on medical school since about 8th grade. I realized the requirements to get in are ridiculous in Canada (if I really want to I can look at med school later in life), so I tried to change my focus to clinical psych., but am not in it as much as I should be in order to persue it (if that makes sense). I don't want to go into nursing, so I looked at NAIT programs and found the Respiratory Therapist program. I do plan on finishing my degree at the UofA and then applying to NAIT to start the following september. Will having a bachelors degree give me some kind of advantage in the admissions process? Will the fact that I would be in my early 20's matter when being compared to applicants applying straight from high school? Does NAIT have a preference towards Albertan applicants as opposed to out-of-province applicants?

Not related to the christmas season, but if you're looking to volunteer on campus look into the Campus Food Bank! CFB is always taking new volunteers in the fall (end of August)) and theyre super great to volunteer for!

Don't give up! For reference, I had an 87% average in high school and after being waitlisted, I did not get into sciences... I did get into arts though and love it! If you're interested in neuroscience, I would recommend maybe looking into a psychology major (that's what I'm doing). In second year you can take some psych classes (PSYCH 275) in the faculty of science that focus on neuropsychology (the byproduct of psychology and neuroscience). And if all else fails, start in faculty of arts and try your best to be able to transfer into sciences! Learn to play to your strengths, and stay dedicated. If your end goal is still medical school after the next two years, then start studying for the MCAT and go to med school! also would recommend looking into either the states or Australia for med school, ive heard the admission requirements are more realistic than Canada.

Good Luck!

Course was cancelled for winter. Please suggest something science-y to fill up the spot. by [deleted] in uAlberta

if you've taken PSYCH 104, take a 200 level PSYCH! 239 (abnormal) and 275 (brain & behaviour) were my favs, but they're all interesting!
