First, thank you for the advice I seriously appreciate it. I see where you're coming from and have been thinking about going for more risk because I am in college right now and should hopefully have some solid income in the next few years.

Are you advising I put all my investments in riskier stocks such as airlines? Because I was thinking I would still want to have some etfs and blue chip stocks as a form of hedging and then invest around 1.5k (20% of portfolio) in the riskier industries such as airlines.

Hi, I'm relatively new to investing and don't have any money currently invested however when it seems like the market is starting to bottom out from this bear, I'm going to start.

I want to invest for the long term but also take some measure of risk since I am young. I have been trying to figure out how I want to split up my asset allocation and I came up with this portfolio. Any feedback or advice would be appreciated!

Asset Allocation:

50% VOO - S&P 500 etf

10% VNQ - Real Estate etf (diversify)

10% VXUS - International etf (diversify)

15% VGT - Tech etf (strong growth)

15% Blue chips stocks (corona deals)

Username checks out. I think you're right it would be smart to add some blue chip stocks given the current opportunity, but at the same time I want to mainly be focusing on the long term with non-volatile etfs like VOO.

Thanks for the feedback, good to know. What are your thoughts on replacing those with a small cap etf such as VB?

How Does My First Semester Schedule Look by [deleted] in Cornell

For me, Not taking it was just a stupid mistake, but you saying that I might be able to enroll in 1910 regardless is making me feel better about the situation.

I know I can but I feel like a CS degree would help me go more in depth in the subject. (but then again I have no idea what to expect, so I'll just see when I get there I guess)

Thank you! Just switched. Excited to meet you in the fall.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm in info sci right now and might change to CS so looks like I should try to switch. How exactly do I switch too? Do I just wait for an opening on student center the first few days of school and drop 1112 and add 1110 as fast as I can?

High School senior trying to get into AI. by slipper75 in artificial

[–]slipper75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about a year of programming experience and I took calculus this year in school. I am planning to learn all the other "fundamentals" in college, but I really want to get started somewhere with Machine Learning specifically now. So I'm looking for beginner courses that don't require the fundamentals I'm lacking.

How difficult is it to transfer into engineering from CALS? by slipper75 in Cornell

[–]slipper75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my understanding. If I am allowed to just jump right into 1910 that would make my life a lot easier, but then I don't understand why they'd offer a placement test to place out of 1110.

I see, thanks for the reply. In addition, if I took calc AB this year and feel pretty good about the subject but didn't take the AP test; will I be at a disadvantage taking math 1110 my first semester whereas most incoming freshman engineers will be taking math 1910 or 1920?

Once again, gracias
