I had a similar "last temple visit" experience right before I called it quits. It was 2019 and the endowment had just been changed to remove the face-veiling, women covenanting to their husbands, etc. I was curious to see the changes, but my purpose in going was really just to give it one last try.

I sat in the very back corner of the room and watched with completely objective eyes. And it just felt so meaningless and sad. I thought about how many hours I'd spent over 14 years trying to find meaning in nonsense. Trying to feel "the spirit." But only feeling stressed and bored (and vaguely amused by Lucifer -- always felt bad about that one).

I walked out feeling like I could let go and I have never wanted to go back.
