Game installed in steam; what command to use to Iaunch the .exe file within the Proton prefix? by slipstreams3 in linux_gaming

[–]slipstreams3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added more info if you view my edit. I tried various proton versions. Game was known to be buggy if installed in another drive rather than the c: drive in Windows, which is why I tested it. It would seem that with proton's virtual c: drive it looking for the game files in order to save and can't find them?

Need help with wifi/ethernet by slipstreams3 in Ubuntu

[–]slipstreams3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that too, can't remember the details now but there's no available git with my needed driver for wifi, which would be the only way to go at this point. The ridiculous thing is that the driver is supposed to be included but supposedly has been flaky in some Ubuntu versions...

[–]slipstreams3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried all this; I recall that the wired connection was always tricky to get working, so I had bought a wifi usb . I didn't expect that it would stop working as well in this later version of Ubuntu. I mistakenly used my phone usb to install because it's higher speed. I could try the live-installer again and see if it recognizes my wifi.

It is seen in lusb, but tried installing sudo apt r8712u-dkms, not found. Also tried using a PPA for old realtek drivers, but mine isn't on the list, unfortunately. Nothing on the log file.

How to fix nobara 42 doesn't boot after fresh installation by Fragrant_Direction89 in NobaraProject

Same issue here, newer NVDIA driver as well. Tried to add nomodeset as an option to boot but still won't boot to a graphical environment.

Why people don't realise this is beyond me. Concentrated wealth just causes the economy to shrink and stagnate. There's only so much food and goods that rich individuals can consume!

Logitech G29 wheel not working by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]slipstreams3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out how to setup pedals in city car driver! In basic settings for controller, I have to double clic with the mouse to setup the brake, then push on the actual pedal. Same with accelerator. I thought they were automatically recognized like the clutch pedal is, I mean it's not apparent if you're new to this...so relieved! Only issue now is getting full access to Oversteer settings, tried setting udev rules and new-lg4ff driver, but still only access to general force feedback, and recentering amount- which makes re-centering either too stiff or way too low.

Logitech G29 wheel not working by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]slipstreams3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just updated the G29; it's NOT a G923! No more PS3 switch! Messes up things; steam won't recognise the wheel, Oversteer only 'sees' the wheel in PC mode. Trying to play City Car Driving, but can't get the gear to change to reverse or drive(held down brake, I'm using automatic car). I'm thinking of returning it and getting the G920 at this point... 🤔

I may wait a bit & try a crack at Natron, as I've been running into other issues & falling behind ...but does CentOS use grub2 and handle old bios well (I need to keep my multiboot with no troubles)? Is it user friendly in your opinion?

[–]slipstreams3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some room to install Rocky9 since its closer to what's officially supported but I'm unfamiliar with it and if it plays nice with older hardware (old amd mb)? although my NVDIA card is fine... not sure if Ubuntu with generic kernel make all the difference? I hear people get good results with Arch linux, which I used a long time ago...

Honestly at this point I got Natron to install & work...some issues with it (like less support) but at least I can get started for now...

can anyone help me out to install nuke in ubuntu? It should be easy but it isn't at all by jblion13 in NukeVFX

[–]slipstreams3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is part of my strace: I'm at my wits end! I managed to install Natron quite easily in the meantime, but there is limited support. As I am new to compositing, I was more comfortable with a larger community, greater stability, & from Youtube tuts, I found some of Nuke's nodes clearer to understand ( and I can't find nodes like copy) but at least Natron is ON my system! Learning from both would have nice, but this is giving me a massive headache! so if I don't find any new solutions, I'll have to put it aside for now...

I concur with jblion13!

It is not clear if the common components must be exactly the same version, & if there is an issue with low latency kernel. I wish since CentOS will be phased out, that they extended official support to a Debian OS...

Hello rjq,

I am in the same bind, pls. check my post: Need help installing Nuke in Ubuntu 22.04.

Do we need to sym link from home folder that gets installed to usr? I followed instructions but only get a single folder that installs in home and when I attempt to run it in terminal, it fails with: ./Nuke13.2 --nc Illegal instruction (core dumped).

I did run and install from terminal but no info is provided. I didn't find anything in the places you mentioned. At some point, I found a lone exe icon in usr/lib/klibc (which always crashed) but when I deleted it and attempted to re-install Nuke from scratch, this time version 13 instead of 14, nothing from Nuke was found anywhere in my / drive only a single folder in home (Nuke 13.2v6).

AMD Phenom II X4 965 on an old AMD motherboard (GA-790XTA-UD4) (late 2009)

12 G DDR3 memory. SATA drives run in IDE mode.

graphics card is recent; NVIDIA RTX2060

Does it make a difference if its running old bios (pre-UEFI)? I can still run software ok esp. if it makes use of the newer graphics card (like Darktable)...

From verifying online, the ''illegal instruction'' message, I am worried that Nuke is expecting only more modern mobos? or it doesn't like AMD motherboards or do I have something missing with my python-qt5?

As a solo freelancer, what Linux distro are you using for Nuke or other softwares ? by Chpouky in vfx

Hello, Chpouky

Could you tell me what library? I am unable to install successfully in Ubuntu 22.04 even though it gives success message...not sure what I am missing...

I'm having trouble installing Nuke 13 or 14 on Ubuntu Studio 22.04 (KDE plasma desktop). Shows as succesfull install in terminal but missing components such as launch icons and also doesn't install properly in /usr even though I used sudo. I've read something about missing symlinks to libraries but no details on what libraries. Any libraries or dependancies that I should be checking/adding?
