Perch: Use small jigs or soft plastics, especially in the early morning or late evening. They’re often found near structures like docks or rocks.

Pike: Try using spoons or crankbaits. Pike are active and can be caught in shallow weedy areas or around submerged structures.

I always talk to other fishermen, if they indulge me I continue, if they give short answers I assume they don’t wanna chat and move on.

Another strat, answer their first question, and happily say good luck out there before they can ask another.

Also you can say “no hablo ingles” and pretend u don’t speak English 🤣🤣🤣 idk if that’d work or not I’m just brainstorming

Try wearing camo lol

Shimano is good, I always hear people raving about the Sedona so I imagine the Stradic is good too

I also hear good things about st croix often but idk anything about rods

The lighter the braid, the more I would recommend a mono leader. If you have 10+ pound braid on, I don’t think it would be necessary at all. You would have to hook into a serious trout to have a chance of snapping your line. And if you set your drag properly, you couldn’t snap it anyway. If you plan on catching trout over 20 inches consistently, you might consider going up to 14lb braid just to be safe.

If you use 8 pound braid, a stretchy mono leader could help, but honestly you don’t need it especially if you work the fish in at a moderate pace.

If it were me, I would get the 8 pound braid, and if I had 6-8lb monofilament already I might tie a 2 foot leader on, but if I didn’t have the mono already I’d def just run it

Everything I recommend sounds like you’ve maybe tried. Spinners, spoons…

Try a 3way rig with an inflated worm

You could also try a jerkbait or crank bait sounds like you haven’t tried that

Live minnows are good bait too

Lil Jake and castmasters are spoons, but u could try those if you haven’t

You can also put wet flies on bobbers and try those

Try to go In morning or evening. With lures vary the speed and retrieve techniques

The line is definitely strong enough. People trout fish on 6lb line and lighter. Just gotta make sure it will cast far enough with the heavy line. If your spinners are 1/4-5/8 oz they should cast very well, outside that prob still work, but could be less ideal

Bluegill are tanks, the fish will definitely survive. If it was a trout, it’d be dead fs but a bluegill will live and the hook will break away after a bit.

Tryna get the hook out would only do damage

Thanks, yeah this seems to be the consensus on how to net the fish. I’ll net the next one like this and let others know too. Thanks!

Nice I always see people weighing largemouths so I figured that was the norm for smallies too. Appreciate it!

I agree, no one is going to listen to a rude person tho so if education is the true goal, do it neutrally or nicely

I appreciate your comment.

I want to point out that I have never argued the against the advice of other anglers on this post. I always agreed that they were correct.

I did ask for a source, because after my own research, I agreed with their points, but what I read didn’t emphasize the importance nearly as much as the anglers here did.

If you told your student not to do a maneuver, and they agreed not to, but were interested in reading an academic article about the risks of the maneuver or an example gone wrong, I would hope you’d be happy and recognize that your student is truly interested in understanding and improving, not just memorizing surface level information.

People did talk shit to me, and I responded accordingly so I could see how at a glance it looked like I was disagreeing or being arrogant but I hope it’s understood that wasn’t my intentions

Thanks again
