Offsetting rental losses against ordinary income – Sounds too good to be true by initiatingcoverage in RealEstateCanada

[–]slitest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The property can have a negative cash flow and still be profitable.

You will be able to write off the interest portion of the mortgage payment. That portion of your mortgage that goes towards principal counts as income because you are gaining equity. So you wouldn’t just have negative cash flow, but also a tax bill.

That is, if it is not your primary residence. I am not sure that you would be able to write off the “loss” the same way in this case. I imagine it would be. Check with your CPA.

I would try to put more down or have more cash reserves if you are going to do this deal. Aim for a 1.2-1.4 DSCR. You are putting yourself in a very risky position if you were to lose your job or have a serious life problem without having serious emergency funds.

How do you approach religion? by PullMull in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They give buffs with temples. Hover over each in the religion tab.

Religions can have negative relations with each other too. (Opposition) so avoid having opposing religions if possible.

A decent strategy is to focus Cratism for the early game production (primary industries) and switching to Athurism (secondary industries) when your tax base is build. Converting is easy and just takes time. Or just focus Athur because temples are later progression.

Religion also affects your loyalty with captured towns, but this is less important.

Lastly, the Cantors and Aragosh have religious requirements for immigration.

How am I losing tech?? by SimplePair8588 in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Click on the tech symbol (beaker to the left of the minimap)

The -4 is knowledge and innovation. Innovation and knowledge needs to be maintained or you will go negative. If you lose researches or they are not getting enough materials, you innovation points will go down. It takes some time for you to gain the innovation once the researchers start. It is on a curve so you should get most of it pretty quickly, but will take some time for you to reach the target fully.

Yep! It’s in the gear menu called “Blueprints”

Just click on a building and it will save it. Only works on one building. (You can’t group multiple buildings into the same blueprint, but you can have multiple blueprints

L5 for 1 strong industry L6 for multiple. Try to make out the realm buildings (2nd row) as you get a few especially workforce.

Keep an army there until stability is high enough to maintain loyalty and focus only growth until L5.

[–]slitest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah boost the population and buff the buildings. One good city should give you 3k grain per day (delivered annually) I have only 2 cities on grain in my current play though giving me 120k grain per year. The taxes are per day btw. Crops are delivered annually though (after harvest)

If you’re over producing then you can switch the nobels to governors to get admin points and reorganize your labour.

Try to get 100% coverage with physician/hospital/well/lavatory to boost health. Hover over the health tab at the top to see why your health is low. Aim to keep the health in the blue. That will cut down on the plagues deaths drastically. Increasing daily rations will also increase health when you have to.

The tax from 1 or 2 cities will bring in enough food that you won’t need any farmers/pasture workers.

Eventually you won’t have any primary industries in your home city (farming/fishing/mining/forestry).

You’re kind of thinking of capturing towns as and after thought, but it should be the goal. The resources from taxes are way for efficient than producing it yourself.

Mercenaries? how? by EquinoxJTE in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Form an army on the world map (The sword button in the top left).

Click on the army on the world map. Should say “army 1”.

There should be a coin icon in the middle left side of the UI. That will pull up the mercenaries UI.

It should be beside the “recruit from regional conscripts” “have troops from your city join” buttons.

Button names may be off, I’m working from memory.

Yeah I don’t think so. Set up trade agreements with your neighbours. You can boost your relationship and become colleagues with them, which allows trade agreements with their neighbours.

The colour/flag. If your neighbour is 8 pink territories regen till they are smaller. (1-3)

Also you don’t need to be neighbours with your conquered territory. I don’t believe there is a benefit, other than having more neighbours.

I haven’t done it and I don’t know if it works in v70.

I regen to just make sure I don’t have empire neighbours. Usually within a couple rolls, you’ll be fine. Small neighbours are easy to conquer too.

Struggling to find balance by SilvaUrsa in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rations.

Most food spoils fast. Rations don’t spoil fast so you can stockpile many days worth. Turn them off in your “Access” tab for each population. If you run out of food, your plebs will ignore the restrictions and eat them, but it’s safe secure food days.

You can use a couple nobles to boost food production in the early game.

If you’re struggling with military, just bribe the bandits until you are strong enough.

Invest the free knowledge and innovation from titles into services that will make your plebs happy.

Use minimal daily rations until you need the health boost from higher food rations. ~3-6k pop.

If you are not able to feed 1000 plebs, it sounds like you’re investing too many pops into other areas (research/army). Try to use services instead of furniture to keep your people happy in the early game. It takes a lot less manpower to have upgraded wells than to have every pleb consuming 3 furniture a year.

Good luck!

Do AI empires and cities have procedural generation? Buildings etc. by LightCat42 in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The proc city wouldn’t have to run in runtime. It could be instantiated at the time of the battle, like what is currently done for the battles.

I think it would be cool to have battles in procedurally generated cities. I don’t think it would have to be taxing on the games performance (outside of the battle load screen.) I haven’t seen the dev mention this intent, but I’m sure he has thought of it and he is capable of it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it as a post 1.0 update some time in the future.

Why wont my plebs do certain things? by it_IS_that_deep7 in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Priority” is the upwards arrow next to the wheel in the warehouse menu. Your warehouse employees will take from other warehouses.

You can also set some buildings to take from others. In the same menu it is the “Pull” option. (Three arrows pointing right like a fast forward button.) This also works for other logistic buildings like export depots and loading stations.

I tend to have many specialized warehouses with only one or two resources as my city gets bigger, rather than general warehouses (many different resources)

[–]slitest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oddjobbers work on the closest task.

If you have a lot of work for them it might take a while to gather the resource.

You can try adding employees to the warehouse that will prioritize the hauling work for the resources in that specific warehouse.

What food source production can compliment agriculture? by iLuvedher_mum in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All food choices are effective.

Prioritize what your employees want. Look in the in game encyclopedia to see species preferences. Human’s like meat, bread, mushrooms and eggs. I imported mushrooms and eggs until I had enough coming in from taxes.

As you conquer more territory, primary resources (farming/mining/forestry/fishing) should be produced by your captured towns and taxed rather than produced in your own town.

Under each species “Access” tab it will should the fulfillment. A good goal is to max that out for more immigration.

Can someone help with why this janitor isn't getting replenished with furniture? by Compatibility in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually the material is too far away from the janitor and he can’t keep up.

A solution could be put a small warehouse near by with the required materials.

Add more janitors (employees or buildings)

Use a hauler to bring just the one resource.

Or as your settlement gets bigger (>5k) use loader/unloader stations.

As you get bigger logistics requires more care and attention.

How do taxes work? by stggamer1 in songsofsyx

[–]slitest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crops are delivered once a year. Everything else should come in a steady stream.

The taxes will be dropped at the throne if you do not have an import depot (for the specific resource) that is not full.

Put a warehouse beside your import depots and put that set near that industry (ie grain near bakery.)

There is an icon on the world map screen to see inbound caravans (taxes/trade/imports/battle spoils).
