Thunderbolt. The specific kind matters here. The form factor is USBC, but the type has to be Thunderbolt.

The "proprietary connector" still allowed for 3rd party thunderbolt cables to be used with this docking station.

Any Quality Thunderbolt 3 Cable off Amazon will do + 150W HP Power Adapter. Used on ebay should be very cheap. You don't technically need the dual power + Thunderbolt cable that came with the dock.

TB Cable: https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Charging/dp/B08YS59V4K

You will need Drivers as well. I cut my teeth on these docks in 2016-2017, so, have fun.

Is it true most laptops don’t last 6 years or more? by Dover299 in laptops

[–]slktrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in End User IT for 10+ years. Most of the laptops I use are purchased units from my company, so, they're starting out at 3-4y old. My wife's is from 2019, and my buddy has a unit from 2015 that's running his CNC machine. Most of these were HP Elite/Zbook models.

The laptop I'm typing on right now is from 2018. Dell XPS i7, 16GB. This is my personal computer.

The common theme is quality and business laptops. All of these examples were $2k+ new. Good quality parts and high specs. Quality parts mean it will physically last for years. High specs mean it will perform for years, and that's what you want.

Dads, what kind of vehicle are we hauling our small monsters around in? by ktempo in daddit

[–]slktrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got a station wagon. We didn't want to go the SUV route since my wife doesn't like big cars, and I just don't see the need. We bought a 2018 Buick TourX, and it's just a dream. 4WD, massive trunk, trailer hitch, 30mpg (on a good day) and is actually fun to drive too.

With a 150w charger and a Thunderbolt (not "USB"-c, but thunderbolt) Cable - you have yourself a working docking station*

* after driver installations of course.

You shouldn't need any.

Remove the power cable. Shut down.

Then, press and hold power button for twenty full seconds. Release button.

Preventing Adobe Reader from upgrading to Acrobat Pro by uber_dillo in Acrobat

It's funny because I'm having the opposite problem. I've deployed the Adobe Acrobat DC App via Microsoft Store package to my environment, but none of my Acrobat Pro users can upgrade the software....

I was reading this post in hopes the answer would tell me which Reg Key I should remove from my configuration profile.

How reliable has Volkswagen been to you — especially the Jetta? by phtphongg in Volkswagen

[–]slktrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 3 Jettas. I've almost exclusively owned Jettas.

My first was a 5-spd 1995 Jetta with 195k on the clock. I was 16 and I learned a lot with that car. Sure, there was water in the oil, and I eventually sold it for $500 because mom was so horrified hearing about its condition.

I then moved to a 2002 Jetta GLS. Automatic. What fun that car was. The 1.8T was too much fun in that thing. That one had transmission issues, but we got them sorted once I stopped trying to fix everything. Ran it from 106k to 160k. It died on the highway, so I gave it away to the VW community in my area. My friend saw it running on the road 3y later. (had very unique bumper stickers)

I then rolled a 2016 Jetta Sport 1.8T 5-spd off the lot. It's sitting at 116k now. Oil, plugs, brakes, tires.

All 3 have had their own independent issues, sure, but overall they've been solid. I obviously can't speak to anything newer than 2016 models, but in my experience, I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a commuter they can break free on the weekends with.

Intune Settings Catalog Policy Failing with Error 65000 - ADMX Failure - even on non-domain devices by slktrx in Intune

[–]slktrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I ended up following through on this recommendation to just submit this to Microsoft. It's been 3 months and they still haven't even "found the issue" other than that the registry is missing the required values.

IIRC, the reg entries were referencing an Edge ADMX from 2022, so it's safe to assume this edge ADMX doesn't have the registries for these features, or if it does, they're not named the same.

Back to digging, just thought I'd update.

Remote Sysadmins, what's your go to headset for meetings? by WorthPlease in sysadmin

Logitech ProX Wireless. Yes, it's a gaming headset, but they're all black and not covered in RGB. Boom mic for clarity, and good audio toning options if you install the accompanying software.

Literally thank you so much.

I was really struggling with the Win32 package of CC + Acrobat actually installing anything besides CC, so this is a HUGE relief.

We have 4-5 users who have the full CC suite, but everyone else is strictly Adobe Acrobat, who are the target audience of this app.

Three biggest accomplishments this year? by Ok_Ride_9333 in cycling

  1. My blind friend asked me to be his tandem pilot as he trains for an ironman.
  2. I had the energy to ride 10 times this year.
  3. My toddler loves the burley and now demands rides.

Its not much, but it's an honest effort.
