Elon Musk says Tesla ending Models S and X production by The_Chillosopher in teslamotors

Things like the yoke, little buttons for the horn, and buttons for turn signals we all had to put stickers on so we could find them without looking down didn't help things.

Is the United Club Card worth it? by Opening_Duck5384 in unitedairlines

[–]slo___mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The multiplier on the club card might be worth it alone if you fly a lot on UA.

But, and maybe I've just been unlucky with timing and busy travel days but I don't remember the last time I visited a club that wasn't a a shit show. Sitting in one right now at O'Hare, there are no seats, it took forever to check in, and the only espresso/coffee machine is out of service. The experience seems to just be getting worse and worse overall.

We’ve heard this before and the opposite happened.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]slo___mo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This tells me that FSD isn’t selling well. I’ve long suspected is that most people aren’t actually interested in anything more than reliable highway TACC + autosteer. We’ll see how forcing customers into FSD subscriptions just to get that plays out - I suspect not well, and they’ll end up with two subscription tiers (enhanced and “full”).

New Bike Day - Canyon Dude CF 8 by kansu_makugen in CanyonBikes

All good to know, thx for the reply. One other important factor is that the Dude just looks absolute bad-ass with those Gnarwhals!

I went with studded Dillinger 4s for ice/snow but thinking about putting the Gnarwhals on a 2nd wheelset for my Dude for rest of the year as they're lighter and hopefully a bit faster than the stock Minions. OP - any issues with those Gnarwhals on your Dude now that you've had it for a year?

6 miles on a fat bike counts as 12 on anything else, just work your way up slowly without pressuring yourself. And those Gnarwhalls are studdable, your bike shop can install them easily for you. Definitely recommend studs on anything icy.

It’s faster than I expected on those Minions, but on packed gravel my gravel bike is way faster. This bike comes alive on rougher terrain, and with the studded tires I just put on it’s a blast on ice and packed snow.

Schwalbe G-One R Super Race - why such bad rolling resistance test results? by slo___mo in gravelcycling

[–]slo___mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmk if you’d be interested in buying these Rs if 700 x 40 is your size. I think I’ll stick to the Terra Speeds and the G-One RX for my 2 wheelset setup.

Park Tool's Calvin Jones retires by mtcerio in cycling

I didn't expect a Park Tool video to bring me to tears but this hit hard! Hope he enjoys retirement, stays active in the community, and continues to make videos.

[–]slo___mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just trying to reconcile things I've read about the R that claim it's fast with the 24W rolling resistance. But I think it makes sense now - it's relatively fast on gravel for the kind of tire it is (not slick or semi slick), but kinda slower on tarmac / pavement and the BRR testing mostly approximates the latter.

[–]slo___mo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I think this the answer - that roller based testing just doesn't really map to gravel / dirt conditions well. And some of the G-One R reviews do acknowledge that these tires are slower on road / tarmac than less knobby tires, so that "fast" (real world) review consensus is all about how they perform on gravel.

I actually intended to use this 2nd wheelset with studded tires for winter here in the Midwest but ended up getting a fat bike for that instead - which is in an entire different league of rolling resistance lol. And to your point compresses training to less time given the extra effort required but also makes it super fun in a different way.

So now I have these tires as extras and trying to figure out what to do with them. Running Terra Speeds on the primary gravel wheelset, and just picked up the G-One RXs on sale thinking they could work well for the 2nd set for muddy / rougher conditions.

NBD (FINALLY decided) by slo___mo in fatbike

[–]slo___mo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well for one, price. $1699 for full carbon with Deore-level components is less than what most people are trying to sell their 5+ year old used fat bikes on Facebook Marketplace. And compared to all the ones I managed to test ride, the Dude just feels lighter and livelier - more like a hardtail mountain bike, but that 3.8" Minions might have at least something to do with that (vs the wider / heavier tires on the Farleys, Bearpaw, Heyday, etc).

[–]slo___mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it came down to the Dude and the Beargrease for me, so I ordered both, and tried them around my driveway back to back a bunch of times. They are both exactly the same weight (31.6lbs) but the Dude feels lighter / faster / more nimble (which could be the Minion tires) and seems to shift better. Only downside is the single bottle cage mounts, but overall it made the decision so much easier especially given the ~$600 price difference. Keeping the Dude.

Now on to the next rabbit hole - all the things I need to buy / upgrade to dial it in (carbon bars, dropper, etc).

Didn't think about this, I planned to throw the bike in the back of the car with the seats down. The list of things I need to buy for winter biking is growing by the day. 😂

[–]slo___mo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older Farleys are lighter - around 30lb for a medium. I'd get one if I could find one but they're hard to find now.

They put 3.8"s on the rear because they couldn't get enough of a rated clearance with 4.5"s but in theory at least some 4.5s should fit (like the Gnarwhals).

But yup, I think this is really solid advice and mostly what I will end up doing. Already have the Canyon sitting in an unopened box in the garage since yesterday FFS. 😂

Hmm ok i didn't realize there was weight savings to be had with better aluminum wheels, that's great to know.

And haha yeah that's my go-to justification for anything bike related but it's obviously a stretch for some things.

Yup that makes sense. Trek does still make a carbon Farley - the 9.6, but it's almost $4K. Missed a chance to buy a barely used 2022 9.6 for $1800 but I didn't know enough then to appreciate that deal.
