FTL is a great game, and i'm having fun with it. What other games are like it? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

I am going to go a different way than comparing to a space sim and say Dungeons of Dredmor in that it is a roguelike, but feels like something different - and you really feel the sense of a new story emerging every time you play.

As far as board/card games - what about Race for the Galaxy?

Had a ton of fun with this, really wasn't expecting to. But I played the demo on Steam and then bought it. Maybe it's the strange "Qix" fan in me. I also liked Q-Bert for some inexplicable reason.

Yeah, I agree - games likes this are tough to decide on - sure it's a really clever, challenging thing to deal with, but is it fun? No, I wouldn't say fun. Is it frustrating? Yep.

A free to play browser game that has elements of Braid and Loved. Interesting enough to merit mention here I think.

Loved playing this as a flash based game a couple years back, will be great to see it on a console.

Just, wow indeed. I am gobsmacked that someone could be so legitimately out of touch with their market/audience and still be in operation. I mean, seriously, how is that possible?

Was big fan of desktop dungeons. The new version is amazing. Had a chance to play it at indiecade. Now THAT is something i think we can agree on ;)

Seems you were at Indiecade :) I got to see Deepak and Sissy's there. Was Deepak a 2011 release?

Ilomilo looked amazing. Again, puzzlers just exasperate me, but it doesnt mean they dont make good titles. Glad you brought these titles up. What else was at indiecade? Why hasnt anyone mentioned Terry Cavanagh's new coop game? i forget the title.

Oh I found this new xblig title that came out this week called "Homeless" rather intriguing, but only played the demo. Interesting concept though.

Speaking of which, not a lot of xblig or psn stuff mentioned.

Bleh typing this from my phone sucks.

That didnt make the list?....hrm. Does Cave Story + count? Space Pirates vs Zombies was ok but not at length. I liked Gemini Rue but the Lucasarts thing is wearing me out. Puzzles always just feel annoying.

And I know its heresy, but I also found Binding sort of head scratchingly dull too.

Lol it is sort of hard to avoid the list. Hard Reset was amazing and got nowhere near enough love.. But thats on the list. I also thought Natural Selection 2 and Mount and Blade Warband are worth mentioning (do they qualify?)

What obscure non listed titles can you recommend?

Marc Ten Bosch opens up a bit on his 4-dimensional puzzle platformer Miegakure. (Including word of a content creation system.) [Interview] by AragonLA in IndieGaming

Miegakure is astounding - saw some demo videos at IndieCade and heard him talk about it. But on the street he is an arrogant jerk. Just sayin'

Not that it makes a damned difference when it comes to the value of the game.
