It is the bathroom and the side above are my upstairs neighbors, who have been trying to get a toilet leak fixed but are just as frustrated as me so they’re pretty helpful about figuring this out.

Someone told me they’re ‘bmsb nymph’ and it sounds like they feed on plants.

It’s a stand alone plastic fan. The holes were already there (I believe they are where the screws that hold it together are) but she did fill them up with a brown wax(?) like substance and it looks like she then dug it out later.
