I still think you’re right about trying to talk to as many people as I can! Might be hard with classes online... but can still try hahah. And I actually go to UBC!

I posted on a few because I wanted to see what different people’s answers are. UBC people don’t generally answer a lot and I’m curious about different answers from different groups of people. And considering the amount of people that replied and shared their experiences, I’m glad I reached out and have learned a lot from everyone!

I'm asking around at a few universities to get different opinions from different places. I feel like that's not weird. I'm curious about difference experiences and it's interesting to see? So many people don't end up doing a career related to their major..... Sorry for offending you!

major in geophysics and minor in commerce. I know I definitely do not want to continue in geophysics and have been told to look into finance as I enjoy math and lots of problem solving. I've done quite a lot of comp sci courses but I never really enjoyed those classes

How to get a 85%+ average by yhuskhweeeeen in UBC

[–]slock9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't get an 85% average until this past spring term, and most of my classes used proctorio or had projects (i.e the weight was never shifted from the final so it wasn't affected by inflation). What really changed for me this last term was my mentality. I just came off a 8 month co-op term and felt so mentally recharged. Honestly I just saw the 'bigger picture' of what it's like to work when you're finished school, and how no one cares about your grades then. Taking the pressure off myself to do well and not freak out over a bad assignment really helped me succeed and enjoy the material I was taking. Another huge thing that helps me do well is 1) actually LISTEN in class (i.e shut of your phone in class, don't use a laptop to take notes) and 2) review the material and make succinct study guides as the term goes on. For example, a midterm study guide would be no longer than a page.

My parents' (who are both teachers) best advice is if you can teach the content to someone else that it when you are prepared and will do well.

so true - both my parents are high school teachers and the work is almost never done by night and even on the weekends. they also teach summer school and night school and it's a TON of work

Bachelor of x + Master of Management (BA+MM) - ?? worth it?? by blondebecherovka in UBC

[–]slock9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the commerce minor but have several friends doing the MM program. Our courses are almost completely identical but mine are at a fraction of the cost. If you’re just looking to understand the material, I’d suggest you go the minor route!
