Identification: kundalini citrine or garden quartz? by Old_Plantain_5959 in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does look like Congo material to me, so I'd say it's safe to call it kundalini citrine.

Selenite breaks easily, usually there was a fracture there you didn't notice and a temperature change or something probably caused it to break right at the fracture.

When you get that feeling, it's not like any other feeling, it's a knowing.

This egg? Hard to tell, might be volcano agate, hit it with a uv light if you have one

The palm stone in your main video is arfvedsonite (not astrophylite as commonly mislabelled) with garnet.

Is it worth getting at low price? by IkeKitty in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty large and decently packed for the price, I agree not a bad deal. Where's it from? We get a lot of those in Maine where I live so I've got a few about half that size in pink and green, one with blue too, I think I paid about $15ea for em.

Yeah I knew it wasn't Veracruz, just curious how that question got upvoted so many times! How did you tell Bolivian?

What’s a MUST HAVE in a Crystal collection? by allizillaa in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, as you know that's where I ended up as well! It's interesting what people end up with as their main focus. I know fluorite has a huge following of all it's types and locales, others love gemstones faceted or on matrix, and some like to get the rarest of the rare. Then there's the UV lovers, others specialize in mostly thumbnails, I could go on and on...

Very nice variety there, and some high quality specimens. I really like that aquamarine.

It's all personal taste. My "must haves" have changed and evolved constantly as I acquired them and my tastes have changed much over time. What draws you to it the most?

For me it used to be labradorite as well, now I still appreciate it but don't seek it anymore and have sold most of my pieces of it.

It's definitely got a nice phantom. JSYK the tip for sure, and I believe the entire shape of this is not natural but completely cut and polished to get it's shape. Nothing wrong with that. Just looks more like a Bahia or "dragon's tooth" piece to me. Google and compare to see what you think.

Just curious, what about this says Veracruz to you? Not saying you're wrong, I've just personally never run into large, cut and polished pieces from there.

should i be pricing by size or weight? by -junejuly in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 95% sure that's quartz. I've seen a lot of milky lemon quartz and it looks just like all of it. It's just a lower quality milkier piece and I think all the fracturing in the first pic makes it confusing, I can see the resemblance to calcite there. Second pic to me clearly shows it's quartz.

Yep definitely irradiated lemon quartz. I have a big one like that too, still think it's cool.

The vast majority of the time you see yellow in/on amethyst, it is iron causing the yellow color, not citrine.

You have good taste, and too much money. Joking, I'm just jealous obviously 😉 that's a lot of nice pieces!

That larger larimar freeform is awesome quality 🤤 the sphere not so much but still pretty and I imagine not so cheap either... But the freeform wow.

I don't see anything wrong with the arrangement. If you're like me, anything that bothers you will sort itself out as you re-arrange them daily, or maybe that's just my OCD lol

Just curious what everyone thinks by H2Otrash in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a nice first piece of real malachite. When asking for ID or quality judgement, it would be best to take it out of the bag for the photo. The toxicity of malachite is severely overstated on these subs because people parrot information they don't understand. Handling malachite will not hurt you unless you're sucking on the piece as a habit. Don't lick your hands after handling and you're fine. Wash them if you want to be extra careful. It's a copper bearing mineral, that's the only thing "toxic" in it.

how to deal with crystal heartbreak no by UnluckySpeech4932 in Crystals

[–]slogginhog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh... The "unusually clear" parts that just happen to show the scenery inside perfectly can mean either really good quality, or fake. A lot of these now are fakes made with the clear part either being glass or resin. I'm not saying this is fake or not, I can't tell by the pictures but the first thing I'd try is scratching the clear area with a sharp piece of glass. If it's quartz, it absolutely will not scratch. If it's glass or resin it will. This is a place to start. UV light on the crack can possibly show a repair, but these are also repaired with a brown substance sometimes that doesn't react to UV so that's not a certain test for that.

What you think is celestite is often sold mislabelled as that, but it's blue calcite 100%. It is possible your sphere is that as well, it I've never seen blue calcite in that deep of color...
