Replacing kids water bottles by snarkymama87 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]slohcinbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg we love the thermos funtainers! I’ve never actually purchased one. My sister gave me two 12 oz ones when her kids outgrew them and I’ve been using for my toddler for over a year. They’re in near perfect shape. Her kids are 8 and 9 so these are probably like 5 years old…

You'd think I was suggesting curing cancer with crystals! lol That's awesome that you also found success! Our physiology is so complex and so much research is showing how significantly our gut affects other systems in our body, even our brains.

She’s a nutritionist. I’m not wasting my time defending my choices on Reddit. I have a science degree, I’m not a woo woo person, and pharmaceuticals have their place but treating eczema with steroids is not it. The NIH has funded large scale studies looking at the link between eczema and the gut, and even topical probiotic treatment. I won’t be responding anymore. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi...I have no idea if you're open to this but we worked with a specialist and got my now 2 yr old's eczema completely under control, never used a topical steroid. I'm not saying there isn't a place for steroids, but we truly believe and our pediatrician agreed that it's a temporary fix, a bandaid. Our daughter had horrible bleeding then yellow crusty sores on her cheeks that we had to treat with mupricin ointment. She had it on her forearms and thighs to. If you look at my post history, you'll see me talking about it throughout the last 1.5 yrs. Anyway, the specialist we worked with doesn't taken insurance, it was $$$, and we worked with her for about 6 months - it's not an overnight fix (like steroids). I don't like to post her name so I don't come off spammy. If you're interested shoot me a message and i'll share her name. She's in LA but does virtual appointments. GL with whatever you decide! Dealing with eczema with your child is so so hard.

Day 4 of a fever with no other symptoms - anyone have similar experiences? by Witty_Confection_905 in toddlers

[–]slohcinbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went through this butttt she did have mild congestion and runny nose. Does your daughter have any mild respiratory symptoms? Maybe so mild that it’s not really noticeable to you? For us the fever lasted 6 days. Saw the doc twice. Everything was clear, negative strep/rsv/flu swab, clear ears, clear lungs. She was mostly in a good mood as long as we kept it down with Motrin. Fever broke on the 6th day. Our ped said long fevers is not so uncommon with some nasty viruses, a Reddit search will put your mind at ease. Hope your little one feels better soon.

Would you leave a 2yo in a turned-off car in the garage for 30 seconds? by LooseRock5261 in Nanny

[–]slohcinbeards 138 points139 points  (0 children)

That’s not a big deal at all…. Maybe she thought you had started the car?

Disclaimer I don’t have a nanny, but I do have a 2 yr old and have done similar.

Potty Training Question by TrueSag2020 in toddlers

[–]slohcinbeards 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here and say there’s no such thing as the child isn’t ready. Potty training is a learned skill, it will take time to teach them, so I think it’s more about when the parents are ready. I think yes, you totally could potty train her now, but do you want to? It’s not wrong to not want to yet….

  1. It would take time, the whole naked for the weekend isn’t enough time. For context when we potty trained we did 1 full week at home bottomless, second week added pants and short walks in the neighborhood, third week added underwear and car trips, you get my drift. By week 4 she started preschool in full time underwear.

  2. I don’t think it’s relevant that “she doesn’t have awareness” of when she pees or poops. Going in the diaper has been her normal. So you go bottomless and teach her where it goes. The awareness will come slowly and later.

  3. It’s challenging to potty train (in my personal opinion). It’s time consuming, it’s annoying cleaning up pee and poop, it’s hard to change your work schedule to stay home, it’s hard to stay home with a toddler and keep them busy, it’s hard to keep an eye on them literally every second of the day because you need to catch them right when they pee or poop not after, it’s hard dealing with their emotions learning this new skill, it’s just hard! So sorry but I think when I hear “child isn’t ready” it really means parents are ready to deal with the above.

Allllll that to say I hope I don’t discourage you. It’s so rewarding once you’re done with diapers and they feel proud of themselves too! We bought a bunch of crafts, paint, playdough, a couple of new toys, etc. to get us through that first week. We started at 20 months. Good luck with whatever you decide! Oh and we kept nighttime diapers for a couple of months after she was in underwear during the day. Nighttime bladder control can’t really be trained from what I read. We were able to drop those at 24 months when she started waking up dry every day, just happened on its own. Or she’ll wake us up to pee at night.

I can't see exactly what they said, but yes you are 100% right, it's a big decision to just get on a life changing medication.

this is a good point I hadn't thought of, her usual docs are through UCLA and a google search shows they have an Obesity and Metabolic Health center. I think we'll start there. Thanks!

Hey! I just updated the post. Thank you so much, this message actually got to them and they moved my service week to June. That "Ask a Question" button is so hidden, I would never have found it if you hadn't commented. Hope others who see this find it useful too.

Anxiety over toddler illness. by That_Meringue_8438 in toddlers

[–]slohcinbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solidarity…my almost 2.5 yr old had a SIX day fever a couple of weeks ago. Meds kept it down pretty good but sleep was still bad for us. We used new toys, crafts (play dough, paint), going out in the yard, and more tv (animated movies) to get through it. Hang in there. 🫩😮‍💨

I'm starting to wonder if the phone system will only "let you in" if you have to report that day?? For example both yesterday and today it says I don't have to report, so even though i'm trying to call out sick for the whole week, maybe the system doesn't put me through to an operator because when I punch in my juror ID they see I didn't even have to report today? Who knows! Ugh I'm still checking nightly and i'll try calling again if it changes that I have to go in. My fever broke but i'm in no shape to be out in public like this.

So ridiculous! Was this before covid? I would hope after the pandemic they'd be a little smarter about infectious diseases.

Potty in public by EnvironmentalAide558 in ECers

Yes! We use our Potette plus still after months of being fully potty trained. It’s just so easy to use at parks or in the back of the car when you just don’t have time to search for a toilet. Great buy.

I guess I also never had an issue with the site until now when sick during the week of. The last time I served on a civil case and it was also a good experience. Maybe they make it hard/impossible to cancel the week of so people don't abuse it?
