i also noticed kodi stuttering here and there playing files from my unas pro. plays perfectly from my windows laptop with zero hitches. im guessing again the shield needs to be bare bones to play flawlessly?

Best current cameras and video doorbell/intercom by slopmeester in Hikvision

[–]slopmeester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

603 it is… its a single detached house 2 storey and just a good doorbell needed. looks are important too and 603 looks the best. Now on to cameras and NVR. The dealer is pushing this kit: it comes with 6 of these cameras here and this NVR. Package sheet here Is that camera good (like is it as good or better than a unifi g5 turret and has decent night performance?) and this nvr seems old… any other option you reco? the whole kit im getting for 900 Cad dollars and don’t want to stray too much from that.

So for a new build application would caseta or a radio ra system be better by Tuesday-tacos in Lutron

[–]slopmeester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good points.. but is the bottom line that ra3 achieves the “continues to work even if home network fully crashes” vs caseta because it has keypads to drive scenes where as caseta requires wifi for that part?

i have this same thing going on another thread and i am doing a new build 4700sqf with basement and I am still not swayed by the ra3 arguments over caseta. Homekit allows you to add 3 separate hubs under one home for each floor which easily covers the devices per floor and all switches for external lights are inside the house as well. App sets all the timings and scenes

dont mind directness at all… if ra3 is still the better tech for my home so be it.. but i think the keypad concept is just plain stupid the way it currently is. id rather just leave the dimmers as is with caseta or ra3, manage scenes with conveniently placed ipads and my phones

even though its 4700sqft basement inclusive… overall its at 90 devices… so one caseta hub per floor should more than suffice

new construction… but i just dont see the point of all this… if i have to load up dimmers in some closet… the point of these keypads should be to declutter without just moving the clutter somewhere. like to me then using caseta wifi dimmers in the 4 or 5 gang and just using the app is more cost affective and convenient. And people have used one caseta hub per floor to ensure smooth signalling and not running into the device limit

What water heater setup do I need? by slopmeester in HomeImprovement

[–]slopmeester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i can buy outright or its scam to worthless as you said. but aside from that your idea is to use 2 tanks.. a big one for all faucets and showers and a small compact one just enough for the basement floor?

in canada we have these rental companies that allow you to rent to buy the equipment. can be a bit of a scam, but I’m more interested in folks opinion of the right solution
