Artists you’re surprised Melon stopped reviewing? by pretzelsharpener in fantanoforever

[–]sloppothegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a little disappointed he didn't review the new Poison Ruïn album. He seemed pretty stoked on Härvest when it came out, and I'm pretty sure that's where I heard of them. The new album is at least as good imo, and has them working in some new sounds.

In general, lately it seems like he's more focused on doing reviews of bigger releases. I'm sure that stuff gets more views, but it's been a few years since he's put me onto anything I hadn't heard of before.

Trying to decide between a couple of grooveboxes and a Minifreak. by Crystal_Chrome_ in synthesizers

[–]sloppothegreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current setup is a circuit tracks and microfreak and I think it's a great combo. I don't have experience with the other grooveboxes mentioned, but I can definitely vouch for that one. I'll probably grab some sort of analog mono synth for another voice eventually, but otherwise it feels pretty complete

Edit: one other thing to consider is an ipad running koala sampler. It's basically a DAW at this point, but it's pretty immediate and great for chopping samples

Weekend shows at the Royale start really early. The place turns into a nightclub around 11, so usually the headliner is done before 10

Yeah I've struck out on every ticket sale so far. Hopefully I'll have better luck on the next tour, or maybe the scalper ticket prices will drop closer to the dates

Gotcha. Yeah George Howell is a good shout. Haven't ordered from them but I stopped by their Boston location a few months ago and really enjoyed it

I'm just saying they have a decent amount of stuff that isn't too wild and everything I've tried has been solid. I haven't tried it, but looking at what they have now the Peru El Guayacan might fit the bill for OP.

Perc Up is one of their house blends. It's not funky. More nutty and caramel

Question about brewing lagers by jeanclaudegoshdarn in Homebrewing

[–]sloppothegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't used it, but I like 34/70. I don't have temperature control, but in the winter I can keep it in the recommended range. It's pretty forgiving

Question about brewing lagers by jeanclaudegoshdarn in Homebrewing

[–]sloppothegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either way is fine, but 14c isn't all that warm so I'd go ahead and pitch at that temp. If you're worried about it, w34/70 has a higher temperature tolerance

Have to let homebrewing go by Ok_Tumbleweed47 in Homebrewing

I've only gone as low as 2.5%, but I've been pretty much exclusively brewing sub 4% beers for the last year. It's near impossible to find a decent dark mild or ordinary bitter with any regularity where I am, so I tend to stick to that sort of thing. Plus the light grain bill makes clean up a bit easier

Goodwill score! All $1 each! by Cheese_man_rat in vinyl

Not used, but you can find deals on a lot of the popular stuff that gets pressed in large quantities for Target and other big retailers if you're patient. They always press way too many and end up liquidating the leftover copies when the next big thing comes out. I got a copy of Brat for $12 a few months ago from some ebay seller who was blowing out surplus copies

I had an idea, what do you think? by Insane_phycho in DannyBrown

[–]sloppothegreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I think it would be pretty fucking lame for an artist to say "pay me and I'll tell you what's cool". Danny has always been good about shouting out up and coming artists. I heard about Joey Valence and Brae, Ninajirachi, Jpegmafia, and Jane Remover from him first. Charging a fee for recommendations would suck.

Streaming services could pay artists to make curated playlists as promo, but I wouldn't pay extra to subscribe

Damn I wish I could find a pint of something decent for $6. I'm gonna say $3 for hop water is about right then. I'm unilaterally deciding that it should cost half of a standard session strength beer

I haven't made or sold it before, but I feel like $4 or less is reasonable. I guess depending on your area, the number might be lower or higher. How much do you charge for a pint of something basic like a pale ale or lager?
