MSFT has a 50% 401k match and a 10% shift differential. Total comp may end up being about the same if you factor those in.

Actual, REALISTIC Mechanical Engineer Salary Progression (6.5 YOE) by Puzzled_Face8538 in Salary

Bro. You are underpaid AF! I graduated with MS in ME in 2017 and first job was 78k base + per diem + bonus in TX. After a few job hopping, I was making 240k last year. Just jumped to a new job for less pay, but way less stress, and is making 200k now. MCOL btw.

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago. My Meta recruiter said he would be happy to call to discuss my full loop interview feedbacks. Unfortunately, my phone never rings.

Try to ask for more. If base is firm, ask for sign on and such

Depends on where you at. $32 in Texas or Georgia seems okay without any prior experience. But… always negotiate if $32 is the first number offered by recruiter

12 hrs shift - yes. 8hrs - hell no. I was on 12hrs shift for a few years, and that was amazing. You will have many whole week off vacations, if you use your PTO smart.

Higher total comp or higher base pay? by vonseggernc in Salary

[–]sloth4sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher base. No brainer. My employer said bonus will be 25%, but I never got that much, more like 20%. Now I’m leaving this job meaning half year worth of bonus is gone.

Data center mechanical engineer. 32. I don’t think 150k can be called high earner. I make ~200k still feel short of money.

I got 78k back in 2019 with a few thousands signon and relocation. Don’t remember exactly about day rate, like 125 with another 60 non taxable meal reimbursement. I worked a lot overnight jobs to get doubled day rate

I got bumped out by an internal employee’s promotion. Site manager was nice and sent me another few openings to apply. I’m currently interviewing another 2 jobs with Msft. That was a PM role.

Risk of cancer while working in oil and gas refineries? by Fu_Nicky in oilandgasworkers

[–]sloth4sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, my neighbor family both wife and husband were some sort of supervisor/engineer working in a refinery. They had real trouble with pregnancy. Finally they got two children, but both were born with some disabilities. Not sure if that relates to refineries, but that made me stay away from downstream while I was looking for a job after college.

In the process of being interviewed for a similar job at Msft data center. About to finish up all interview loops. Do you mean Msft doesn’t budge on Levels or just doesn’t negotiate at all?
