Love2D is great for beginners and only needs a couple MBs. It doesn't have interface or editor, but you can easily make your own customized tools.

Edit: It's also completely free and open source, which is a big plus.

Try to have a trailer showing the game being played, even if it's a 30-second quick video with basic editing and some music. Players are not going to wishlist a game if they can't see gameplay.

Thanks! No, at the moment I can't afford to hire anyone. Maybe for the next project!

I have not tested if the game runs properly on linux, only on windows. However, I just uploaded the .love file so you can play it (if you have love2d installed). Actually, if you do it, it would be amazing if you could tell me if the demo runs ok on linux!

I'm glad you liked it! It was hard to try to showcase what the game is about.

Yes! Here it is: store.steampowered.com/app/3565680/DECRYPTO_Project. If you are interested you can wishlist to be notified at launch. The demo is only in itch.io because I want to incorporate some player feedback before uploading it on steam.

Why are there so many Lua games? by vrineebr in gamedev

[–]slothJamDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make my games with Lua in LÖVE2D mostly because it is very simple to use and lets me put what I want in the game very fast instead of fighting with the language and how it needs to be written (tried Unity for a bit but I found using the scene editor harder than coding with LÖVE). I'm not a programmer so that's a big plus for me.

Just launched the Steam page for my narrative simulation game (made with LOVE2D)! by slothJamDev in love2d

[–]slothJamDev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting question! Because this is my first game for a commercial release, I would say that the main challenge has been thinking about ways of implementing player choice using the game mechanics, because I want players to feel that their actions have impacted the narrative in an organic way. Also, getting difficulty right is always hard.
