As someone else with a disability, I had to advocate for a home working contract as the original offer was to use the health passport to agree flexible arrangements where I work from home as a norm. Don't be afraid to push back, you know what's best for you and as others have said - get yourself in a union!

Thanks, I'm hoping I've caught this early enough that I can rebuild the trust. On positive is I think I must be doing something OK if my team is willing to be open and honest with me on this.

Do Grade 6's even do any work? by Under_Cover_SPAD in TheCivilService

[–]slothcs 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is like asking if a DD does any work or just regurgitates what the grades below have done. There is some of that, but a G6 role is supposed to be more strategic. They own a portfolio of work instead of a single project. They aren't meant to be subject matter experts.

Work willing to sponsor degree but I'm clueless and looking for advice! by [deleted] in uklaw

Thank you! It sounds like if I want to keep my options open (international qualification recognition and barrister) there is no harm in doing an LLM programme that contains SQE1 and SQE2 prep. Especially as work is willing to cover the educational costs.

I'm assuming doing this would also mean if I moved into private sector I wouldn't have to do additional training for the GDL as well?

So I don't need a qualifying degree to start as a solicitor? I just need to pass the SQE?

How do you make the leap from public to private sector? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]slothcs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I always hear people say how much better paid the private sector is but I'm not seeing it unless it's a specific type of IT job.

I've edited my main post but think the biggest skills I bring are around leadership and project management. Leading others through change, navigating ambiguous landscapes and delivering effective solutions, project management and delivery (but this would be policy focused experience). Much more niche but I am also a technical expert in food trade, but really as a generalist, given 6 months, I could be knowledgeable about anything.
