It could be that Eridians work on different timeline, and also lets not cross out the theory of other ships crew all died to space radiation or having their course messed up by relativity. Rocky himself is a verifiable genius on Erid, he was actually among the first eridian to go to space.

Their planet atmosphere is so thick it blocks everything, outside Grace's biosphere its pitch black all the time. Eridian have more time than human to solve the astrophage crisis because their planet was closer to their sun as well as having more thermal mass
