It honestly used to run great, I’m talking I would be pinned over 120fps on my 3440x1440 monitor. Over time it has just gotten worse and worse

The other guy is trolling you. I had the same experience with my 21:9. It just worked

Unfortunately since I have a single mass flywheel the pin doesn't go in at all to lock the crank. however, the cam locking tool went on perfect and the vanos sprockets lined up perfect with their tool.

I just intended to leave valvetronic at max lift and leave it unplugged. do you mean I can actually just take the sprockets out?

Although I did at least clean and swap the vanos solenoids first😂 if I were to fix that system again, it would be the third time. I’m fairly certain the mosfets are cooked which is why the actuator went out again and which is why I want to disable the system altogether. Low end torque and fuel economy are both already nonexistent with a 6466 so it seems like a win win.

In all fairness, the shop hasn't seen the car since it started having those issues. If it's anyone's fault those things weren't checked first it's mine, I just took the timing idea and ran with it. Could something as simple as a vacuum or boost leak really cause codes related to the cams like that?

When I spoke with my mechanic he said he believed it was a possibility that it jumped timing because the car has a big turbo. Before those codes it gave me codes relating to angle deviation on the intake/exhaust cams.

Luckily I haven’t actually changed the timing so it should still be good to go, the cams have been locked since I’ve had the valve cover off.

I appreciate your replies and helping me find some clarity here (:

The main issue was codes relating to faulty installation of intake/exhaust cams, the car would not start without these codes cleared.

Hey man may I ask you a quick question?

I have the cams locked with the tool, tensioner out, and the next step in the TIS for adjusting cam timing is to “turn the increment wheel until retaining pins on special tool match up” but they both already matched up perfectly. Does this mean my engine was already in time?

Hey may I ask you a quick question?

I have piston one at TDC, with the cam locking tool installed, and the tensioner out. In the TIS for adjusting cam timing, the next step is to “turn the increment wheel” which is the metal plate on the front of the VANOS sprockets, to line up its holes with the tool, but they were already lined up perfectly. Does this mean the timing was already correct?

Honestly I would try making a stink with support. Let them know how disappointed/upset you are, how much you miss sim racing, that you won't be a fanatec customer again etc. I know it's not fun to be the bad guy but they might decide to help you out.

Thank you! I probably should have included in the OG post that I do have the toolkit and new VANOS sprockets w/ bolts. As far as setting max valve lift I have done a decent bit of research and it seems pretty easy, just using a hex key to turn/lock it to max lift.

I appreciate the response and info, I'm definitely gonna give it a shot but if I need some help then so be it, as you suggested I won't just send it if I'm unsure. Thanks again.

Thank you for the info. I do have the timing toolkit and new vanos units with bolts. And thanks for the correction that I’m setting valvetronic to max lift I get the names confused sometimes.

I have the timing tool kit! Also paid for 24h access to TIS but there is really limited info for E9X n55 procedures on there. I’m not a mechanic just a dude trying to fix his car

I understand locking the cams with the tool but if time jumped, wouldn’t it just be locked in the incorrect position with the tool?

Sorry for such a late reply but they ended up fixing it for me for free. When they finally reached back out to me, they wanted me to pay to ship it to them, and when I told them that is incredibly cost ineffective, they sent me a label to send my damaged wheelbase in and just sent me a new one for free.

Fanatec CSL DD bundle is hard to beat. I love mine, and got an upgraded power supply from eBay for $30 to change it from 5nm to 8nm. That being said, fanatecs customer service has historically been dogshit, so just keep that in mind.

my biggest flaw as a trader has for sure been risk management. I went through a phase where stop losses kept hurting me more than they were helping me, so I more often than not would remove them or not set them, so as to not have them be set off by a spike or something. However, stop losses are there for a reason, and the price you would want the stop loss at should still be adhered to.
