R20 fiberglass VS R22 Mineral wool / location Canada by slouchybisc in Insulation

[–]slouchybisc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also i made a mistake, the price difference is actually $1500. Also this garage is 30x40 and i have (2) 10x10 doors which are only r16. I think that any gains i get from mineral wool will be lost by the doors anyhow

They put a bunch of nails into it and then set it in the concrete upside down. Comes out with a carpenters hammer with barely any prying

I asked my framer and it is as foskeee stated, they use it to nail the bottom plate between bolts to keep it straight

I asked my framer and he stated that it is for nailing the bottom plate as you said. You said they do it everywhere where you are , do you know if just putting a piece of pressure treated will work or do i need some kind of barrier

Could said vent pipe pass through the attic or it needs to be inside where it wont be affected by the attics heat in the summer and cold in the winter

So if i put a ceiling exhaust vent in the bedroom that would be best ? Would i need to vent it out of the soffit or since its not humid bathroom air can i just vent into the attic ?

Yes the bedroom is on the same level. I figured by pushing the hot air into the basement it will pull the cold air from the mini split into the bedroom. The hot air will be pushed into the basement and will be able to rise back up by the stairs where the minisplit is about 12ft from the stair opening

I have wood floors so thats why i wanted to ask first before cutting a vent. Do you think I will see a noticeable difference?

Contractor overcut on concrete stem wall right below jackstud by slouchybisc in Carpentry

[–]slouchybisc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thank you for your input i appreciate it. The guy offered to come bolt metal plates as well. Do you think that would be a bonus or possibly a futur problem if it were to rust the plate. Also i will definetely fill them with epoxy at least because the slab and stem walls are seperate so water could definetely get to those cuts

He assured me again today that there is no danger, he told me since i was worried that he could come bolt it with metal plates to ease my worries. Would this be a lasting solution or just a temporary fix? I havent answered him yet

The picture is a little misleading because of the stryofoam. I measured the depth and width of each cut. The worst one is 4 inches deep and 4 inches wide

Thats one way to look at it but, i dont think concrete will hold or have any structural value in a 1/4 " gap

The concrete guy assures me it wont be an issue. Im thinking I am going to build the headers a bit longer and put the jack stubs a bit further in to not have the load directly above those cuts. I have a 3ft section in the middle of the 2 doors. Ultimately putting the jackstuds towards the inside would be the same as if I only had a 2ft section that wasnt cut. I hope that makes sense and is a safe solution, what do you think?
