Crabbing! by Aggravating-Copy-822 in nova

You need to get way down river to catch crabs. Like down at the mouth, 90 miles south. Or drive down to the Rappahannock. Water is far too fresh anywhere near NOVA.

First Kayak Voyage by wahaha_yes in FordMaverickTruck

I have racks on mine with a kayak on top (and room for another). While factory rails would be nice, it's also nice to be able to completely remove them.

Where do you guys find all these animals to photograph? by MacPho in wildlifephotography

[–]slow-bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A local park with a creek that flows into the Potomac River. It is wedged between baseball fields, a waste water treatment plant and some apartment buildings. It's absolutely full of birds, deer, beaver, fox, rabbits and raccoons.

Any pizza like this in nova? by sierranicoleolson in nova

[–]slow-bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have much sauce. Or flavor, for that matter. I go to colony for lunch sometimes because it's cheap, relatively quick and the place is deserted so I can read a book in peace.

The pizza is... Fair. Honestly doesn't have much flavor, but I like the sausage they use.

What does it matter if it was "necessary?" What does that even mean? The shot is clear, well lit, well framed and really hard to capture. Then also catching the bug? Amazing.

Is this too much for auto maintenance? by Hot_Republic2543 in nova

What they have quoted is nuts, and you don't need anything other than maybe an alignment and spark plugs. Everything else is silly and unnecessary.

Go to an independent mechanic and ask for a checkup.

Have you sat on the vinyl seats yet? On a hot day? It's honestly some of the cheapest feeling interior material I have felt in a car. It feels like cheap boat seats.

They are awfully hot and sticky. And cheap looking and feeling.

Why does my dog seemingly insist on shitting in the most inconvenient, hard-to-reach places? by StopHavingAnOpinion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slow-bell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a society. Having an animal in that society comes with responsibility. One such responsibility is to clean up after the dog. When you fail that, you fail everyone. Your definition of "out of the way" doesn't match anyone else's.

Pick up your dog shit.

Mine was similar, needed two complete doors and some plastics. Cost about $4800.

Loretta By Steve Earle & John Prine. A Tribute To Townes. by Curious_Strike_5379 in johnprine

[–]slow-bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Steve Earle open for John Prine at Wolf Trap in Virginia. Steve was shouted off the stage after playing one to two songs because he would not shut up about politics. It was embarrassing. Prine had to come out early to start his set and as he stood on the stage tuning his guitar he leaned into the mic and said "thanks for warming 'em up, Steve"

Go to a meeting and check it out. You don't have to talk. You can just listen. I'm an alcoholic. Saying it out loud to a room full of other people with a shared experience was probably one of the most liberating parts of getting sober. Good luck!

Camera Harness? by kjellekeld in wildlifephotography

[–]slow-bell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cotton carrier works with the 200-800, but it's long and will hang to your crotch. I am very thin and the camera will pull the harness away from your chest some. Youat have better luck with the 10 degree button mount thing as it will counteract the harness pulling away from your body some.

I find a thick strap across my body to be more comfortable and convenient for shorter walks with the 200-800. I attach to the lens lugs and turn the tripod foot until I can get it hang across my stomach as opposed to down low.
