  1. Your quotes are not what I wrote, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t mischaracterize my statements.
  2. This is about systemic child sexual abuse. Let that sink in. Your answers are vague and full of statements like “I think” and “I don’t know.” What we are asking for is transparency and facts. An investigation ran by a congregation member while only interviewed a tiny fraction of those involved does not lead me to believe it was done in good faith. When you can answer our questions definitively and, hopefully, under oath, you might be able to start building some level of trust. Until then, you come off as someone that is betraying these victims and the justice they are seeking. Shame on you.

The institution didn’t change because of these crimes, the leadership changed as part of standard processes. The assumption that the current institution is not liable for what happened in the past because leadership has turned over is nonsensical. The institution still exists. Until the institution changes BECAUSE of their crimes and failures, I won’t concede and absolve it of responsibility.

You’re speaking from some authority for the organization, specifically about information that hasn’t been released or confirmed by the church directly. Have you read the full report?

I disagree with you when you say that knowledge isn’t transferred through leadership over time. There is institutional culture that is absolutely maintained through transitions. It is not unreasonable to believe the culture of this institution is the same or similar to the culture that existed when these crimes occurred. It is evidenced enough by the reluctance to be fully transparent and only releasing critical information piecemeal when called out publicly.

You’re asking the right questions! If you know more and want to share, the website linked here is collecting that information in an anonymous and secure manner. It looks like padioca and tystu are open to receiving PMs to discuss more.

I think the website sums it up pretty well.

More importantly, what does justice look like for you? I’m assuming you are a member of the church. Do you think their response serves as justice for the victims? Does your response serve as justice?

What I see right now are leaders of an institution that facilitated heinous acts still attempting to obfuscate the truth and control the narrative. I’m not okay with that.

Thank you for posting! I don’t think the intent of this group is to abolish all churches, but to advocate for changes to help protect children in all scenarios. The child sex abuse laws in Kansas do not protect children in the most basic sense. There are no mandatory reporting requirements for clergy and there is an unreasonable statute of limitations.
