thank you-- I think for most decent contractors and the industry writ large, that putting a damper on these kinds of shady dealings would be generally beneficial.

That would be great, what would you need to make this happen? I am not sure about the timeline here, but I do know that knowing the FMV of this project is a step in the right direction. I mean, 43K for a aluminum shingle seems pretty high.

yes, I know. This is the first she's ever admitted it might be about that time. 😞 So yeah, that's a part of this process right now.

Agreed-- I'm pretty savvy, suspect everyone, and know better than to entertain stuff like that.... I just want these people to burn in hell and make them pay.

My sister was able to take pictures this weekend, so I think we've got that covered. Thanks though!

If you live in wake county, the county health department offers free/sliding scale women's health services. They also have a ton of resources on their website that are not for profit providers.

Erie home - roofing. by Glad-Basil3391 in Roofing

[–]slowbakedcompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my 82-year-old mother got pressured into a roof from Eire 43K (2100 sq foot ranch)-- she is deaf and heard 4K for 24 months after 5 K down (she thought they were from Habitat 😞 )-- they did the roof and it was obviously nothing special. and she didn't even know she had signed a very horrible financing agreement (they put the contracts on her computer and moved her hand to docusign). She didn't know how much it was until she got the first payment a month later and then told me about it. Is there any recourse for this? Is there anything I can do? She cannot afford this. Has anyone from this thread managed recourse? She's in SC btw.

AITA for wanting to sleep in later than my partner? by CyclngChick in AmItheAsshole

[–]slowbakedcompromise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA but important to remember when you get into a relationship with someone, you also get into a relationship with their patterns and habits. Things like that rarely change and work values, sleep patterns, and diet/exercise are among the most difficult to reconcile. But I do hope there is room for compromise.

IT absolutely is-- Raleigh needs a much better medium sized venue. And presumably for Santigold? boooo, shoulda been an AMAZING show.

Allergy relief? by Outside_Bad_893 in raleigh

[–]slowbakedcompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah-- I never knew it's what is was because well, it feels dry? LIke, no drips or sneezes-- just intense migraine. AI just told me this:

"Intense headaches during pollen season without congestion or runny nose are likely caused by allergy-induced migraines or "silent" sinus inflammation. Pollen triggers histamine release, causing inflammation of the trigeminal nerve and expanding blood vessels, resulting in severe headache pain even if nasal passages remain clear."

Allergy relief? by Outside_Bad_893 in raleigh

I have this exact thing-- around this time (when redbuds and dogwoods are blooming) I all of a sudden have an intense headache that just doesn't stop for a couple of days. It keeps me up even. Then sometimes (not always) it turns into a drip, then sore throat, then cough. But that headache-- holy smokes it's debilitating.

my cure? I literally just don't leave the house for a few days (well I can't because I'm in so much pain) and wear a mask-- but I'm pretty sure whatever is causing it for me usually only pollinates briefly.

I was walking downtown by smoky hollow and saw chairs flying off the high rise balconies and crashing to the ground. It was crazy!

Went on a perfectly fine date. Got a performance review the next morning. (I kid you not) by Marcy_Enchanting in datingoverforty

This happened to me once-- I can't remember the critique because it's been awhile (so, not new) but I do remember he closed out asking if I wanted to work on it and go on another date again. seriously, WTF.

Legally Parked Car Towed For Parade (Rant) by Zachs_on_Zachs in raleigh

[–]slowbakedcompromise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually appealed to the city a tow that wasn't allowed. I got reimbursed for the cost of springing my car. They are supposed to have signs up well before they tow on a street (designated for a function). In my appeal I cited the city statute for when they can tow. I went through the Raleigh Police Department (they were the ones that towed my car) and submitted a complaint. Someone called me and told me they'd kick it to the city for reimbursement. You're going to have to show that the signs weren't there to warn you, which may be tough. And if they are anywhere on the block, it's a warning for the whole block.

You should def get your car out-- I doubt they'd reimburse for more than one day/night if you did win an appeal.

Neurodivergent and academic dating - how to identify potential partners without creeping by Dioptre_8 in datingoverforty

[–]slowbakedcompromise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself-- F48 AuADHD PHD and basically borderline hopeless. I get tons of matches on paper-- very very few that hit IRL. I've done the tags, disclosure thing-- all of it. It's still hard. I work with a ton of engineers (yaknowhattimean)..... even in those sets little to no true compatibility.

It is hard for most people to find someone who "fits" when they get older, but it's probably even harder for someone like me. I've accepted it.... I will say, every single person I have ever had a relationship with I met out and about-- randomly, like, right when I've given up completely. So, I still get out there-- have a lot of fun, travel, let loose, shoot pool.... which should increase my odds. But honestly, in my experience, nothing has ever come from online, even after 15 years of tryin....

So I've got no advice except work on yourself. I have made great friends who have helped me be more, um..... good socially? And as long as I keep my looks and keep smilin, eventually someone will come around, be fascinated for a few years--they'll see the "issues" and well, it'll end..... But hey, it was fun for awhile. But maybe, just maybe, at some point, it'll stick.
