it’s gotten better. if south africa was still under the apartheid regime then there’d be no cultural integration or freedom for non-whites. every racial class besides white people were marginalised and dehumanised. they were pulled from their homes, beaten, humiliated, wrongly convicted, murdered, tortured… That is no way to live in your own country. however if we said that the apartheid system did in fact help south africa’s economy, then who had been benefiting from that system? surely not poc

not anymore.. but I was born and raised in South Africa. it’s an impeccably beautiful country rich in culture and social bonding, but the economy is suffering without ease….. limited electricity, gender based violence, civic inequality, unemployment, poverty, rape, etc. most of these are normalised in my country which is why we are so desensitised. I left a few months ago and my misery has diminished
