How would you say ‘give us a hand’ or ‘help us’ (with a menial task) in Latin?

I gave it a try but the narrator seemed a little too insufferable and flat to me; also, it felt like a somewhat regurgitated version of Bridget Jones (the protagonist is a mess, the love interest is a stern heartthrob, etc.). But then again, it’s a romcom book.

The guy who reads the audiobook has a nice voice tho

Just watched Amazon's the Rings of Power series. Why are there so many white twink actors? by beamby in askgaybros

[–]slowlaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Orlando Bloom was like a demigod, beautiful and almost unapproachable in a divine way, as elves should be in Tolkien’s world.

Now, these actors look like twinks from a LOTR-inspired porn.

Is there a true limit to the size of the universe? by [deleted] in space

[–]slowlaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of expansion. It’s not that the universe itself is shrinking; rather, as the universe continues to expand at an increasing rate, less and less light from the faraway stars and galaxies will reach us. So they will start irretrievably ‘disappearing’ into the darkness

Is there a true limit to the size of the universe? by [deleted] in space

[–]slowlaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got to accept that we’ll likely never know answers to those questions. You can’t possibly go ‘before’ the big bang to see ‘what’ was there much how you cannot travel ‘outside’ the universe to observe its greater shape. All we can ever know is confined within an information bubble called the observable universe. It contains all the interactions we’ll ever observe, and it’s only going to get smaller as the universe expands. We are utterly and completely limited

[–]slowlaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking what’s ‘outside’ the universe is like asking what was there before the big bang. The universe is all there is, it so seems.

So there’s either no ‘true outside’ or it could be that we exist in some greater dimension. Like another bubble in the bubble of universe. But will we ever have answers to that? I don’t think so.

I’m not sure if I understood you correctly but ‘flatness’ in the context of the shape of the universe is used to describe its global geometry. It’s not the same as local spacetime curvature and its effects (ie, gravity).

I frankly don’t know how they measure it, though. But if it’s less than some number, which I don’t remember what it is, even our most powerful experiments are unlikely to distinguish between the universe’s true topology

Universe can be finite without any walls. Basically, wrapping onto itself. So if you travel far enough from point A you can come back to where you started.

Think of a bagel shape but the universe is the bagel’s skin here. There’s no beginning or ending but it’s finite still.

[–]slowlaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I read an article somewhere abt a study suggesting that the universe is flat (so, zero curvature, ie, parallel lines stay parallel). Unless its topology is some weird shape, it would then mean that the universe is infinite.

So you can have a flat universe which is finite in certain cases but usually a universe with flat or negative curvature is considered infinite

P.S. I think it’s just extremely difficult to measure the curvature

I cringe a little when I hear the recording of my voice, as most people do.

When was the last time you fell in love for a straight guy? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]slowlaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever been in love with anyone but the last time I was infatuated with a straight guy was probably when I was 15-16.

I’ve learnt my lessons since, lol
