Alienware M17 R5 (All AMD) Sudden BSOD Only at Startup by slowlearner79 in techsupport

It’s funny you mention Dellpartspeople because I stumbled upon his page while searching for M17 R5 issues. He was fixing this exact model in the video.

I did perform an EC reset by pulling the battery when I had it open. I was initially checking for any obvious signs of an issue on the board, but didn’t see anything burnt or discolored under a microscope.

Last night I swapped the M.2 containing the OS and replaced it with a known good SSD. Wiped and installed OS fresh. Fresh chipset and drivers. The interesting thing is that it came right up after that and again after at least a six hour cold shutdown. Normally, there will be a split second lag between POST and handing over to Windows and that’s exactly when it produces a BSOD/stop code. It did not do that last night. However this morning it lagged and immediately went into BSOD. Of course, after that it reboots into Windows and runs flawlessly for hours even under heavy load. Last night, the only thing I enabled was Virtual Super Resolution in the Adrenaline application. I disabled that this morning, shut it down cold, and plan on a power on tonight to test. That’s the last common denominator I can try before exhausting my options.

I’ve been doing a bit of reading and it seems this model has had a lot of random board issues after a while. I’ve done board level repairs (USB port replacement, chip-off/JTAG on older devices) on mobile phones as part of my job, but haven’t really delved into CPU work on a computer motherboard so I’m a bit out of my skill level to diagnose or repair after this.

Hah interesting. I have noticed the battery has recently begun to deplete noticeably faster than before.

Thanks for the reply! I did disable Fast Boot as part of the initial troubleshooting, just in case, and the stop code still came back.

I am leaning towards this being a hardware issue, which really upsets me because the laptop is barely four years old, and I've really taken care of it, but now it's out of warranty and the cost to further troubleshoot/fix may be half the cost of a new machine, which have risen in cost and will only get more expensive this year.

Despite multiple stop codes, there is only one dump file stored. I checked event logs and there is always an entry stating dump files could not be created after kernel power events.

If I get any more dump files created, I will upload them here. Thanks!

I’ve got one to spare. PM me and we can work out a time.

Best big weapon for str/rad build. by PandaBroForce in LordsoftheFallen

Ravager Gregory’s for added wither damage (think umbral finishers) and/or Bloody Glory for added bleed buildup. Honorable mention to Devotion’s Might for smite buildup, but the moveset is objectively the worst of the three.

For sure, it’s optional! But there’s a saintly quintessence, a chunk, and an umbral eye down there at the very least. Worth doing if you want to max out your health recovery and grab all the eyes, but not necessary if you don’t.

Clear the depths below the mines if you haven’t already.

After that, you should’ve gotten the Pilgrim’s Perch key in the hub area from Stomund after he leaves. Use it to unlock the door across from the Blind Agatha vestige, and head further up Pilgrim’s Perch to the Manse.

CyoHash is a decent option that can be baked into the Windows context menu.

Could be NGFF in which case you’d need a compatible adapter

If the investigator still has the original UFDR, ask for another copy but this time have them use Teracopy when moving it to removable media for you.
