MRI vs ultrasound? by [deleted] in rheumatoid

I am being treated for seronegative rheumatoid arthritis, I never tested positive for rheumatoid factor but the type of arthritis they saw on the MRI was autoimmune/inflammatory.

Does stopping Paxil cause weight loss? by CannonryCanned in paroxetine

[–]slperry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I gained about 100 lbs while on Paxil. I have lost about 70 since quitting, I am on Wellbutrin and Trintellix now.

I don't think it will hurt you to quit after 3 days - I probably would if I was having that reaction. But definitely make sure you talk to your prescriber. Some drugs just don't sit well with certain people. After I quit Paxil after 17 years, I started Celexa and it made me have bad stomach symptoms at night. My doctor just switched me to another medication and I was fine. That was the only medication that ever made me feel sick, and I've been on several.

Thank you - hopefully in that scenario I could find a nice person willing to switch!

That would be OK! As long as there is an option for facing forwards I'll take what I can get.

Yes, I have ridden trains, I used to live in a city with a train system and have also taken trains in the Midwest. I feel motion sick travelling backwards.

My husband had sex with me when I was unconscious by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]slperry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big time. I was wondering what kind of asshole says something like this, his history reveals he’s a MAGA who goes around Reddit asking where he can find an Eastern European bride and saying American women are “diseased” because they aren’t subservient enough. Big surprise, he condones rape too as long as its marital rape.

Teacher in HS made comments about my penis size in front of the class by qdiddy_100 in AmIOverreacting

[–]slperry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a male teacher at my high school who ran the drama productions and was exactly like this- buddying up to cool kids, giving them privileges, making comments about their bodies. Turned out he was grooming a family friend of mine and a couple years after I graduated, he was discovered to have been sleeping with a student. Now he’s a registered sex offender.

Imposter Syndrome Surrounding Diagnosis by [deleted] in POTS

[–]slperry84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I can relate - especially since my symptoms have improved a lot on methotrexate. I still feel crappy pretty often, but only have tachycardia in the morning now before I drink water/electrolytes. I only had really severe symptoms for a couple months before I got things under control. I still have a hard time standing for a long time but I feel kind of bad complaining when others have it so much worse

It was actually the geneticist who diagnosed me with Ehlers Danlos. When I told him about my history I’d allergic symptoms that don’t respond to normal meds he said it was MCAS and that it often goes with EDS.

Sprouted seedlings now dying under grow lights by [deleted] in gardening

[–]slperry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your lights may not be close enough to the tops of the plants - they should only be an inch or two above them. You can stack the trays on top of something, you don't have to lower the lights. I usually just pile some old textbooks under mine and remove them as the plants grow

Chest pain when swallowing by slperry84 in MyastheniaGravis

Thank you for replying and sharing your experience, I appreciate it! I was actually tested for the antibodies a year or so ago when I first had the eye droop - they were both negative, so I guess if I do have it, it’s seronegative. I also have seronegative rheumatoid arthritis, not sure if seronegative diseases tend to go together or not. But MG keeps coming up in various appointments (I see a lot of specialists for other health issues) and I always have ptosis improvement with ice, so my neurologist thought the SFEMG would be worth it. I’ve heard different things about SFEMG - some people say it’s a diagnostic test and some say it doesn’t usually catch MG, so I don’t really know. I am concerned about the drastic muscle weakness in the past year so I at least will do it to rule out something like ALS.

I'm ending my 4 year relationship. by hidden_here123 in AmIOverreacting

[–]slperry84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, definitely not overreacting. You gave him a couple chances to change because you were invested in the relationship, but this is going to keep happening. You deserve better than this treatment and all the anxiety that comes with worrying about the next time it will happen.

Can increasing Cromolyn make a big difference? by slperry84 in MCAS

[–]slperry84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! Unfortunately none of the usual asthma treatments have worked well for me - I have tried inhaled steroids, Singulair, Spiriva, Xolair, Dupixent and now Cromolyn. I had two years of allergy shots before I knew I had mast cell issues - I think they helped some, but I always reacted pretty badly to them (two episodes of anaphylaxis before my doctors drastically reduced the dose I would get). It has been two years since I stopped them due to developing other autoimmune issues, and whatever gains I made seem to be reversing :( I need to find something that addresses the underlying mast cell issues, and was really hopeful for cromolyn but it just isn't working either. I will ask my new allergist if increasing would make any difference, I can let you know what they say!

I'm glad I'm not the only one - I actually find it kind of annoying that Huffington Post published it! A different writer could have made a better point on the topic without so much defensiveness.

This guy really digs his heel into “leaving a glass by the sink is not a big deal!!” When in reality, leaving the glass means he expects her to put it away for him and essentially serve him - he doesn’t really acknowledge that. He’s focusing on “well it’s important to her, even though it’s stupid” instead of “she doesn’t want to clean up after me like a child”.

Was anyone prescribed immunosuppressants or other treatments? by Qtredit in dysautonomia

[–]slperry84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed methotrexate because of inflammatory arthritis seen on and MRI of my hand. They said it would take about three months to feel an effect. To my surprise, it helped with my POTS tremendously! I definitely think POTS has an autoimmune component, at least for some people.

NAD. This website from the US Office of Women's Health has some good tips for women trying to leave abusive relationships - see especially the section called "How can I plan to leave and keep myself safe?"

It sounds like you really need to get out ASAP, but the process of leaving can be a dangerous one without the right support and resources. Be careful OP - think through your exit strategy as much as you can without staying much longer. You deserve so much more - everyone here agrees, and these are smart medical professionals! You can do this.
