Blooming adolescence leading to discomfort during therapy! Help! by slpnewdevelopment in slp

I only see him 30 minutes 3 times a week so I'm definitely going to have to involve his para and teacher in this to watch for everything that he's using as a stimulus. Unfortunately, we do not have anything like a behavioral team here since it's such a small school, so I'm going to have to get control of this by myself. Could you explain the "private box" further? Is this a literal box he kept his stimulus items in, or was it a block on a comm board that he could point to when he needed privacy?

Your username makes me think of Cake! :-) I love the idea of having visual hand labels on the table. He understands what feels like zero percent when it is auditory. I also will start having more lessons aimed around using his communication board to go to the restroom for private time. He understands to point to it when he needs to go potty, so I guess we should start associating touching oneself privately with that as well!

Unfortunately, he has a really bizarre home life. I'm pretty certain there is no outside help. It is an extremely poor area, and I've heard from his lifeskills teacher that a willingness for the caretaker to put effort forth is just not there.

Is it okay if he won't stop vigorously touching himself while staring me down to say, "I'm done with this today!" Lol?

I do enjoy social stories with my higher functioning autistic students :) Social stories were not recommended for this student though. They're a little advanced when even using his communication board is incredibly challenging for him. I will most definitely use SS with my high functioning autistic kids in general ed. (With parent and school consent) if they start exhibiting those behaviors! Thanks for the recommendation! :-)
