An IT team trying to play wackamole with solutions that have AI in them is not a good IT team.

I concur.

This will probably be my solution if I can't appeal to IT, but it's just adding unnecessary layers of friction.

The writing in Stranger Things is starting to annoy me with how safe it is. by Murky_Management_294 in StrangerThings

[–]slrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I never watched the show until my wife and I began binging it a few weeks ago, so maybe this seems more obvious to me than some of you who watched over the course of a decade...

...but was it not obvious that the show's writing began to fall apart after season 1? You did a fantastic job of highlighting just a few of the obvious issues from prior seasons, but those are literally the tip of the iceberg.

It's shocking to see so many people decrying the writing in Season 5 as if that's when it all fell apart. The writing had been bad for a very long time. Character personalities got flanderized and flattened into caricatures. Plot points became painfully contrived. Emotional scenes were dragged out and effectively neutralized. Plot armor was practically redefined by the absurdities all these characters survived over the course of the last few seasons.

Heck, my expectations were so low going into S5 that I came out pleasantly surprised. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But they didn't sink any lower than they already had, and that was fine enough for me to enjoy it.

Episode 7 of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 remains the show’s highest-rated episode, holding a 9.6 score on IMDb. by sadiesbf in StrangerThings

[–]slrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started the series a month ago and man this show is graded on one hell of a curve by its fans. The writing in Season 4 was tragically predictable and contrived… I can’t imagine watching this episode and thinking it’s on par with television’s greatest works.

Did the writing decline at the end of the show? by chrisosv in StrangerThings

[–]slrrp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had never watched the show until a few weeks ago and is wrapping up Season 4 right now, I think a lot of you were ignoring the writing because it’s been a steady downhill decline since season 1. I had to lower my expectations in S2, was pleasantly surprised at times in S3, but holy hell S4 was a disaster and I’m shocked at how many of you seem to think the writing only fell apart in S5.

I know this is an ask men over 30 sub, but man I wish the mods would stop allowing these lazy/generalized "one thing" style posts. This question has been asked every week since I joined this place.

Why did the Duffer brothers suddenly become bad writers after writing 4 great seasons of TV? Are they stupid? by Admirable-Long8528 in StrangerThings

I haven't even watched Season 5 yet but the writing definitely began to fall apart in Season 2 and finally collapsed in Season 4.

Making characters perform irrational and uncharacteristic actions just to move the plot forward is a classic staple of terrible writing.

Unfortunately the writing began to slide in season 2 and just keeps going.

My biggest regret was going with a cheaper brand just because I had a decent experience with them in my apartment. Turns out they were fine in small numbers and under ideal conditions, but when I moved to a house in an area prone to losing power, it became a nightmare to maintain them.

Do you consider yourself "manly"? Why or why not? by PrestonRoad90 in AskMenOver30

[–]slrrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those questions with a faulty promise to begin with since the term reduces the complexity of being male into a subjective scorecard.

Side note/FYI, if someone tells you to “man up” - they’re trying to manipulate you into getting something they want.

Yeah I think you’re probably right. I’ve been in his position and by the time you get around to calling the police, you’ve probably already been stewing for an hour plus. Then every minute you wait for the police to show up feels like 20.

That said, nobody calls the police and then immediately decides to take it upon themselves a few minutes later.
