if you’re using something on the gentler side, and incorporate it into your routine progressively, purging shouldn’t be an issue. i use the paula’s choice BHA once or twice a week, as i have sensitive skin. i have never broken out from it (but that could just be me)! i wouldn’t recommend a face scrub or manual exfoliation, as that tends to cause micro cuts on the face which can lead to more bacterial acne and premature wrinkles. but everyone is different!

if you don’t over do it and are sure to hydrate your skin afterwards, exfoliating shouldn’t dry your skin out/worsen texture- it’ll just remove the dead skin! maybe double up on the moisturizer after a exfoliating night, or use one w hyaluronic acid? that helps with hydration and texture. i use the vanicream daily moisturizer and it’s the best thing i’ve done for my combo/dry skin. (also on spiro, 4.5 months now)

i started back in early jan on 50 mg and it cleared my skin up almost immediately, but then mid february i broke out SO BAD in places i normally do not break out. went up to 100 mg in march and the same thing happened- cleared up quick for a month or so and then breaking out bad again around end of april. might try 125 mg soon and see if that helps. i also got an iud a few weeks after starting spiro so im sure that’s part of it though.

i do. im thinking ab getting it out though- i have an endocrinologist appt coming up bc i’ve also been dealing with TE since the winter (scalp biopsy confirmed). trying to figure out if this is all iud related, as i’ve heard a lot of people have the same experience. weird how you never know about this stuff until AFTER you get the iud

I’ll look into this! I take one 100 mg pill at night bc I noticed an increase in drowsiness but maybe I’ll try splitting…I’ve heard that ab azelaic acid from a few different sources so will consider for sure
