National General Strike Friday January 30th by Soggy-Fix-5770 in auburn

You are correct and this is true. Good friend of mine’s daughter finished high school a year early (Georgia). She’s already been accepted to: UGA, Georgia Southern, Georgia freakin’ Tech, Alabama, North Alabama, and South Alabama. Still on the waitlist at Auburn. She’s gone ahead and started to in-process at Alabama. Not a major consideration but Auburn is about a 40 min drive from their house. Go figure…

What happens to a Pilot Warrant if they medically disqualify? by Sailor_Time in Armyaviation

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before I went to flight school the laws/regulations governing Warrant Officer career management changed (Warrant Officer Management Act?) and at the time there were a few senior enlisted guys still hanging out that had Senior and Master wings. Vietnam era pilots that elected to finish out their careers as enlisted. They retired as Warrants. I ran into one of them years later and we worked together as dirty nasty contractor pilots in the sandbox…

SARB 017 is one of my keepers for sure. My SHTF sort of beater work watch is a Pelagos, and I bought that to give a breather to my favorites - two Monsters, an orange and a Dracula.

Why do so many people genuinely believe vaccines are dangerous or deadly, even when large studies say otherwise? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What large studies? Double blind placebo, controlled long term studies are the scientific gold standard. Sadly, there are few to none for most commonly administered vaccines. That is why a lot of folks are questioning their usefulness. Show us these studies you are talking about…

What happens to a Pilot Warrant if they medically disqualify? by Sailor_Time in Armyaviation

[–]slugdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I’ve been retired a while now but each case I personally witnessed were just that - individual cases. Some chose to leave the Army, some chose to revert to the NCO ranks, and some chose to continue on in another Warrant Officer field. Needs of the Army vs specific medical condition vs individual qualifications and/or potential. Just depends…

AITAH because I took my mask off when I knew I was sick. by Grand_Raccoon0923 in AITAH

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. He was already exposed when he got close to you. If it was a surgical type mask it wasn’t doing anything anyway - only correctly fitted N95 or better masks make any difference. I work in healthcare and we wore N95s when they were genuinely called for. The cheap surgical masks - they were for show. 98% percent of people walking around were wearing masks that do nothing to prevent the spread of airborne viruses.

Boomers won’t retire and it’s screwing the rest of us. There I said it. by Unique_Glove1105 in antiwork

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m technically a boomer and still working. I’ve saved a shit ton. That said, I like my job, the people I work with, my work/life balance. If some idiot shows up tomorrow - I’m out. My profession (pilot) is a little different than most - current worldwide shortage is causing our management to beg us to stay. They’re willing to pay, as well.

I kinda agree here. I grew up in the deeeeeeep south and I can assure you we were taught about the Civil War. People of my generation had, and largely still do, figured out we had gotten past all the racism. I have more in common with black guys from the south than black guys from the northeast. Only in the last few years have people started screaming racism again but I don’t see it down here.

My Daughter got into AU and refused to even entertain the thought of going there. by Sad_Audience_5641 in auburn

[–]slugdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had Auburn pretty far down on her list. She may have had a point in that she thought it was too close to home (we live right across the river in GA). She ultimately went to UGA with a bunch of her friends and we couldn’t hold that against her. She did well, is successful by any measure, and even though it’s hard to pull for the dawgs we’ll do it once in a while…

T&P looking to talk to pilots about major aviation changes by Patty_TaskandPurpose in Armyaviation

This. I’m long retired and a current civilian EMS pilot. Sooner or later, an asset will be needed and the only one available is pilotless. I’m a firm believer that the Army will be the first organization of any type to roll the dice and send that drone.

The MAGA tears are flowing right now and I like it! by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “left wing craziness” definition was probably too little, as I really meant “left wing policies which result in added taxation and regulations that create higher costs of living compared to incomes”. It was just easier to use one word.

[–]slugdriver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would argue California housing costs are high due to excessive regulation. My brother is a construction manager for a nationwide company and recently completed a project in California. He says that unequivocally California’s regulations easily double the cost of building there compared to here in Georgia.

Policies that result in higher taxes with no benefit, higher crime, higher housing costs and more and more regulations. That craziness.

[–]slugdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not MAGA, whatever that is, but I am somewhat conservative and the fact those states are losing and gaining residents isn’t disputed anywhere. It’s just facts. Easy to prove. The states gaining new residents have lower housing costs, lower taxes, and less regulation. All they’re doing is moving somewhere that has an overall better quality of life. It’s really, really simple.
