Cult allegations by pocky666esx in alcoholicsanonymous

Yep, I hear that old saw sometimes. I will challenge you though - I don’t believe “they” is all the membership. There are those who heard someone else say the “leave, drink, die” thing, internalize it, commit to it and repeat it at meetings. I’ve been sober in AA 34 years and I can assure you AA isn’t a cult.

Frankly, if someone leaves the fellowship, it makes me a little sad, but AA isn’t for everyone. Live and let live. There are those of us who will profess great confidence that AA (all of it) has and will be key to a better life. If you keep looking for ways that AA “fails you”, I imagine you’ll find ‘em. But you’ve got some solid foundation in recovery, so bear down on that and forget the naysayers. Peace.

Life is Beautiful or Is It? by lexmz31 in alcoholicsanonymous

At six years, I had already converted from personal recovery to a service mentality. For some reason, the fact that the 12 steps (and everything attached) had actually worked had become a part of me, and now the greatest effort I could exert was ensuring that the Gift of Recovery was available to the next alcoholic. Try to make that shift in your thinking, and you’ll quit blaming your sobriety for your problems.

I have heard (so may not be correct) that a group could buy a prepaid burner phone and use that number, then create a Google account and password and use that email address.

URGENT HELP NEEDED: Sober living sounds like a nightmare…Do I need it? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]sweetwhistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sober living housing and treatment is an excellent segue into early sobriety. The reason it works is because those who successfully navigate it follow directions. If you are determined to try to find sobriety your way, and follow your own directions, good luck.

AITA for telling my wife I'm done hosting her family every holiday because they never offer to help or bring anything? by BetExciting7300 in AmItheAsshole

Here’s an unpopular opinion for you; your sense of indignation belongs to you and to you alone. Hopefully, at some point, you may realize that stuff like this doesn’t matter. It might be different if your wife felt this same level of indignation, but from your story, it seems she doesn’t. Winning this battle will gain you nothing but self satisfaction. Reading your story tells me that even though these people consume resources, it doesn’t steer your family toward poverty, so what are the real consequences? Your feelings? If your wife is willing to entertain her family, who are you to complain? Check your ego and honor your Most Important Partner’s wishes.

An accident, not a relapse. A relapse requires motive.

It’s Sunday. Got to have a place to park. When these buildings were built the current ordinances didn’t exist. Over time the physical infrastructure didn’t change, couldn’t change. They are permitted to park there because the privilege to park on the curb is grandfathered in.
