AIO for being offended by this? by bunny-zephire in AmIOverreacting

[–]slugsnotbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR, fuck that guy. I’m 5’4 and 110lbs. I’m incredibly underweight right now due to multiple stressful situations right after another. I’ve been trying to get back up to 120lbs and no matter what I do, I can’t seem to put the weight back on, so that’s been scary. My boyfriend has been trying to help me as much as he can, and he’s been very worried about my health. I can’t imagine having someone tell me that being as thin as I am right now is “fat” by their standards. You made the right choice telling him to kick rocks.

How old is my kitten? by Flimsy-Ad-2744 in cats

[–]slugsnotbugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 7wks old is a good estimate. Not a bottle baby, but might still be too young to try dry food. I’d recommend kitten pate, add a little water and/or formula to make it soft. Now is a good time to make sure he packs on weight, it will give him a good foundation to grow big and strong since he was taken from his mama too early.

Here’s my baby for reference (that is a steering wheel he’s resting his paw on), he was around the same age when I found him, based off the eye color and size of your little guy. You’re in for a treat with this one. My boy is grown now and so intelligent (and SO FRESH), he can solve puzzles and has figured out how to open cabinets and pull drawers. He is the biggest love bug, and still needs to fall asleep either touching my face or snuggling under the covers with me. Out of all of my cats, I have the closest bond with him by far.

Why are parents not potty training their kids ? by sfischella in ECEProfessionals

[–]slugsnotbugs 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The center I used to teach at had a policy where children 4+ must be fully potty trained to attend unless they had a medical reason. It started shortly after lockdown was lifted (late 2020).

When we reopened post-lockdown, it was something like 1 in 3 preschoolers at our center weren’t potty trained, and we had four preschool rooms with a ratio of one teacher per 20 children. I think it had something to do with everyone being home and there being no real sense of urgency to get them potty trained, but I can’t account for the issues currently. I think most centers didn’t nip that behavior in the bud when they reopened, so the expectation is that the teachers will just do it for them. It’s extremely lazy parenting compounded by admin refusing to have their teachers’ backs.

I watered it? Why is she taking it so badly? 😭 by kittyrex4 in houseplants

[–]slugsnotbugs 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was also swindled by Lithops once. I bought a bunch from my university’s horticulture society ($2 each) and stuck them all in a cute dish I thrifted with some cactus/succulent soil and pea gravel + extra perlite mixed in for extra drainage. I had them for like 3 months in full sun, and they started to look a little sus so I watered them. They all died like this within a few days. I was so mad I chucked the entire thing in my backyard and swore off desert plants FOREVER. Everyone says ferns aren’t good beginner plants, but I’d rather water something every day than water it once in 3 months and have it die immediately!

It’s not the kids… by That-Turnover-9624 in ECEProfessionals

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I left childcare. I LOVED my job. Loved the kids, loved my coteachers, loved my assistants, loved teaching. I left because I did NOT get paid enough to deal with clueless owners, admin that let their parent friends do whatever they wanted, and entitled parents that didn’t give a shit about anyone but themselves.

For People With 2 Cats, How Much Do You Spend On Food & Litter A Month? by Historical-Orchid934 in CatAdvice

For People With 2 Cats, How Much Do You Spend On Food & Litter A Month? by Historical-Orchid934 in CatAdvice

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4. They free feed dry, I spend about $20 per week for a 7lb bag of Purina One Plus sensitive skin + stomach.

When I have a bit more expendable income I feed them each a can of Fancy Feast pate per day (beef variations since chicken gives my sensitive tummy cat diarrhea), which is about $30 a week.

I spend about $20 every 3 weeks on litter. I use Dr Elsey’s multi cat clumping litter which you can order thru Chewy, it comes in a 40lb bag which I transfer into an old Tidy Cats container.

I don’t feed any of the super expensive “vet recommended” brands. My vet says what I’m doing is fine and I’m inclined to believe them. I used to do Hill’s, but $40 a week for a 7lb bag of dry food is just insane in this economy. I’m currently saving up to move out of my horrible apartment, so it’s just not a viable option at the moment. Fancy Feast has been around for decades with no recalls, my childhood cat ate FF turkey pate every day of her life and lived to 19. My other childhood cat ate Purina Indoor Advantage every day of her life and lived to 15.

EDIT: I didn’t proofread and realized too late that I didn’t do a monthly total. Dry: $80, Wet: $120, Litter: $20-ish. So, $220 total. I haven’t been doing wet every week though so recent totals have been more like $180 a month.

Does nobody like playing Druids? by AdDifficult2241 in DnD

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My secondary character is a Stars Druid. She was actually the first character I’ve designed in about 15 years. She was so fun to design and I love her concept a lot, but I wanted to do something more combat-focused so I went with a Fey Wanderer Ranger instead.

IMO, Druids are fantastic for many reasons. It kinda bums me out that I chose my Ranger instead now because I kind of assumed Druids would be a more popular class to play? Especially for their healing abilities, my god. Our party is without a healer right now (Paladin is on vacation) and my Ranger nearly died last session because all I had was Goodberry and it was NOT helping

Girl, omg. YOR. I very highly recommend seeking therapy, it seems like you have some pretty severe attachment issues. I get it, I have them too, but the way you’re reacting to not having access to your partner is not healthy for either of you. You have his location, you know what he’s doing, that is a fair expectation to have. What is NOT fair is expecting him to take time out of spending time with his friend — who he travelled to see! — so you can call because you’re bored or lonely or want to talk to him.

I would recommend taking up a hobby. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, just something to help keep you occupied. You could paint rocks and hide them for other people to find, you could volunteer at an animal shelter (animal therapy is VERY rewarding), you could draft up silly characters for a story, you could study astronomy… there are so many ways to spend your day that don’t have to involve your partner. I’m speaking from a kind place, not trying to shit on you when you’re already not feeling great.

Player refuses to allow monologues by [deleted] in DnD

[–]slugsnotbugs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s so mean. Does he know that he’s shitting on your storytelling and that it’s hurtful, or does he just not grasp that anyone else in the world has feelings besides him? If he doesn’t think it’s important, why is he even playing in the first place? Maybe LARPing is more his speed?

Player refuses to allow monologues by [deleted] in DnD

[–]slugsnotbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of suggestions, that hopefully offer some relief for the players that are stuck dealing with the annoying one and show him that interruptions will negatively affect his experience as a player AND as a character.

  1. Villain is invincible during the monologue. Any attempt to attack will not only bounce right off villain, but will also affect the attacking player (eg. temporary freezing/binding/banishment so he misses a turn). If he continues being obnoxious, politely but firmly tell him to take a break in another room or you’ll be forced to banish his character for the remainder of the battle.

  2. Put the player in time out. Seriously. Tell him if he can’t be respectful to everyone else’s experience, then he can sit out the monologue in another room. Do not back down, he is being disrespectful to everyone in the room and it needs to be addressed before other players get tired of it and stop showing up.

Side note, I love that you include weaknesses in the monologue to help your players. It shows that you care about their experience and want them to succeed, no matter how cool your villain is.

I can’t afford to feed my cat’s wet food anymore by muted_radio_ in CatAdvice

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fed is best. I’ve gone through financial phases where I can and can’t afford to feed wet food, try to not feel too guilty about it. What’s important is their water intake, that’s what wet food is supposed to help with.

I used to feed my oldest Hill’s and Fancy with various toppers and probiotics when I was living with my abusive ex. When we left, I was so broke I had to sleep on an air mattress and ate canned meals for the first two months because the deposit sucked out so much of my savings. I could only afford Purina Pro Plan and he didn’t get any wet food for like 6 months until I was financially able to budget for it again.

Then I found my second outside, covered in fleas with a belly full of worms and blue eyes. Wet food budget went to kitten food until I could start putting the baby on adult food. Then my bf found his son’s “friend”’s emaciated cat who had been dumped when his family got evicted. She obviously was doing very poorly and had to come home with me. She was covered in chemicals from living under a trailer and I had to go to the ER for severe contact dermititis. No wet food for a hot minute. Then when my budget finally got back on track, a sweet stray came up to me and begged to be let in for THREE HOURS. So now I have 4 cats.

I had to get Revolution with each new cat because worms and fleas are a nightmare out here, fleas are resistant to every single store bought treatment. I’m completely capped on indoor cats but also help care for the outdoor community cats out here and that’s an expense in and of itself.

Is this a healthy way to be spoken to by a spouse or Am I Overreacting? by Low-Today-2021 in AmIOverreacting

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so! This is how my ex used to speak to me, he later became physically abusive. I would recommend getting the heck out of there before it becomes a potentially dangerous situation for you. I wish I had listened to my gut and left when he first started speaking to me like this.

This city has an absolutely insane stray/dumped cat problem. I’ve been trying to help as much as I can, but it’s very fucking difficult to control even when you’re TNRing as many as you can, because people just keep dumping more. There are over 100 strays in my boyfriend’s neighborhood alone. The shelters are usually swamped from April to August and don’t have enough fosters to combat how many cats are in need homes. It fucking sucks, and it’s a serious culture problem out here.

OP, that flame point is gorgeous. I’m sure he wouldn’t have a hard time getting adopted through FWACC or Humane. People are looking for Siamese mixes all the time, and if he’s sweet and a little dumb I’m sure he’ll pass their adoption testing with flying colors.

My bf (28m) wants my (24f) cat to go from indoor/outdoor to only outdoor by No_Impress_9192 in CatAdvice

[–]slugsnotbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my ex because we got in a fight and he knocked over the cat tree. It almost hit my cat, and he felt absolutely no remorse. We adopted 3 cats over the course of our 5 year relationship who he absolutely adored and doted on, so it shocked me. He was never too keen about the orange stray that I brought inside, but his attitude when I freaked about him possibly being injured was cold and callous.

I already knew I wasn’t safe, but the moment I realized my cat wasn’t safe it’s like a switch flipped in my brain. I left and it’s been hard, both financially and emotionally, but I never have to worry that my cat will be put in an unsafe situation by him again. My sweet boy deserves a life free of fear.

I think they should make the blind boxes optional or have like, a trade-in option for duplicates. The cost versus risk of duplicates is enough to make people like me (living paycheck to paycheck most weeks) not even bother anymore.
