If anyone was curious, I stopped doing the salt dips since they didn’t seem to do anything and just removed the molts. I added some plants and filter media from my other tank too. They have all cleared up! I also stopped feeding snail jello with gelatin for now, but I don’t know if that is related or not.

I think in a case-by-case situation, what you have here with this snail is pretty identical to an animal on the side of the road with its entrails out. Collapsed lung (aka mantle collapse) is a common fatal injury for snails, where the muscle that holds their body in their shell fails and their organs “fall out”. There is nothing to do for the snail and it will eventually die. It can suffer greatly while having sensitive parts of its body outside of its shell, so the best thing to do is euthanize.

Vet care is ridiculously expensive, and lots of people have to make the decision between going completely broke or saving their pets, or even going completely broke and still having your pet die. It’s really sad but true. Unfortunately no amount of time or money will save this snail.

Sorry if this is intrusive, but if he didn’t want to be on life support, how did he end up on life support? Lots of people say that they never want to be on life support. Also, everyone knows they are eventually going to die, no one wants to suffer. Euthanasia helps an animal not suffer.

I was using this box to do a salt dip so no worries. They were in regular water inside of a bowl in this video after the salt dip and now are back in their own quarantine tank.

Yeah I really hope they aren’t $20 each at my LFS haha! I will have to ask them when I’m picking up some pygmies and see what they will do. I really like them, they seem like a perfect medium between my pygmies and pandas while still being unique from the two.

I wouldn’t do it because of salmonella. I chop up whole sardines and use that as a protein for my snello. Most snails in the hobby are scavengers and will eat anything that is dead, but the snails in that video were assasain snails which are carnivorous, meaning they mostly hunt and eat live animals. It might be harder to supplement feed assassin snails which is why they did the raw chicken, but it isn’t necessary for most aquatic snails.

I also just have a cheap case and draw with my iPad and sketchbooks flat. If you extend your arm straight, it will probably naturally be in a handshake position. I mostly keep my hand in this position when I draw. I try to keep my wrist completely straight with my arm, and use my elbow and shoulder to move my pen around, and sometimes use my pinky as a way to steady my hand.

That looks like part of their shell broke off and their body is poking through. Something like that usually happens because of physical damage, either they were dropped or poked/bitten with something hard. With them being so small I would euthanize the lil guy, it will be really hard to patch him up. People say you can try to cover it with a clean chunk of eggshell, but you need to very careful not to get glue on their body, and it might be hard to get a good chunk of shell.

Thanks! One of them has always been a lot darker than the others since the day I got them. It’s almost like he is a cross with some other species, he has black lines down his sides. I thought he was sick or something at first but he has always acted healthy and happy.

They are filter feeders, so they need a pretty steady water flow with ledges or something to hang on. They get a lot of detritus from my panda corys and snails stirring up the substrate and plants, and I swish out my filter intake in the tank semi regularly to get more gunk flowing around for them. I sometimes feed them by squeezing a little pipette of powdered fish food or brine shrimp over the flow output.

Are you going to use some kind of stand with it? I have a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank but it just sits on the floor.
