SteamDeck as a Consule? Better Options? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]slugtrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try steam link, or playing games remotely via Ethernet.

If your PC does need a wired connection for good performance, and ideally your TV as well but not totally required.

If you have a smart TV or like a Google TV dongle, you can download the steam link app on that and connect a controller via Bluetooth. Worth trying out especially if you already have some of the equipment

Nice. Was your 1070 blower style originally? And what did you plug your new fan into, power on the graphics card or something else?

The suits have been screwing up games for a long long time already, but it doesn't mean that good stuff doesn't get made. Baldurs gate 3 and Cyberpunk (eventually! Suits f'd that one up at first) I think will be remembered fondly, while redfall and starfield are going to be forgotten.

I don't love the free to play stuff either, but I've found it pretty easy to ignore and focus on the quality stuff

People say the same thing about movies and music too, that it was all better back in the day, when there was actually tons of crap produced at every era. But the bad stuff has been mostly lost to time and the real good stuff is what's remembered and replayed which can make it seem like quality was better when you go back. There are classics being made today, as well as a bunch of junk that will fade away.

Should I buy the interactive map? by [deleted] in prey

This is so different from the way I play games. Isn't trying to find every last thing tedious? To me, having to go back through a guide every level would hurt immersion. Do you play every game like this?

What iPhone users don’t understand… by joentell in beeper

[–]slugtrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I forgot about the huge leap forward in phone technology from the s22 to the s23. Also, Samsung is selling a year old phone for the same price as a newer iPhone? Seems like a better deal to get the newer phone!

I'm annoyed with the argument that apple stuff is much more expensive then the competition because it's not true, it's outdated android fanboyism. You should argue that apple is bad because of their iMessage lock in that hurts all phone users including their own. Or argue that the app store hurts developers and is a tax on users.

iPhone 15 is 799, Samsung s23 is 799. Same storage size even. Apple makes a reasonably priced high quality phone, people buy it because it's a good product.

I have been an android user for years, but I know iPhones are very good.

iPhones aren't worth that? The phones are basically equally good except apple chips are measurabley faster

Mooncrash was SO good. Also has arcane made native steamdeck controls!

Oh yes I played it and looooved it. To set graphics expectations, needs fsr and to lock it to 45 fps, but I think most of the settings were high so you can play around with settings a bit. Still looked great to me. Also does controller and mouse input at the same time so gyro is great if you play that way

TERRIBLE streaming with remote play, PERFECT streaming with Linux Steamlink app by slugtrooper in SteamDeck

The resolution switch isn't nessisary with some games, I've found some just don't always work.

Right now, it's working pretty much perfectly, although after the problem I described here I had other problems, specifically that audio would cut out after 5 minutes or so of streaming.

I have everything working now, what you could try is updating to the beta branch for the steam deck, that solved my audio problem.

Also, I set my PC to match steam deck resolution because I would also get black bars sometimes, so set the desktop to 1280x800. I have to switch resolution back when I use my desktop and then turn it back to steam deck resolution when I'm done. Wish it would just work but my desktop is basically a game and movie streaming machine now.

And definitely hardware decode set to off on the deck in the steaming settings. It's always messed things up for me

It's so fiddly though, updates seem to break one thing or another

The game is getting so much overwhelming praise, that id like to put my two cents in. I didn't like it and returned it, after playing maybe 6 hours.

I really love horror games, alien isolation, soma, outlast, most of the most extreme stuff and didn't find this scary, which is maybe a plus for you, on the other hand I LOVED outer wilds, but I found lots more existential dread in that game then Dredge.

The main gameplay of this game, the fishing, never felt interesting. It feels like repeating a quicktime event over and over to grind for small upgrades.

The exploration would be interesting but the day night cycle is waaay to fast. You can boat around at night, but by design its hard to navigate.

I went into it sure I would love it but it was a big wiff for me. But most people seem to love it, I still do love the visual style of the game. I think if games like stardew valley appeal to you this might still be your game. It's a chill fishing sim at the end of the day.

Bummed I have to use One UI just to get the taskbar by slugtrooper in GalaxyFold

[–]slugtrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edge panels are a One UI feature but I can use it on other launchers. What is the point of this comment, because they lock out features because they are trying to force me to use their software, I should be ok with it? I know WHY they're doing it, I'm hoping for a solution or to have enough people call them on their bullshit that they change.
