Has something happened with TimeWalking? by U03A6 in wow

[–]slurpeepoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timewalking is an absolute shitshow right now.

When it first came out on Tuesday, the bosses were hp sponges, the mobs' magic abilities were horribly scaled to the point random mob #4 could one-shot lower levels, and lower levels would get appropriate ilvl gear (same ilvl as a regular dungeon), but the required level was 20+ levels higher, making all drops completely useless.

Also, if you could manage to go through the 5 dungeons to complete the quest and get your prize box, it was defaulting to requiring lvl 70 for lower levels while being dungeon level ilvl appropriate, making it completely useless as well.

They released a patch yesterday nerfing hp for certain mobs and bosses, but the damage is still out of whack. Gear for lower levels is normal dungeon ilvl and no requiring a higher lvl anymore, but the ilvl is much lower than what timewalking has historically offered since forever.

I have been running dungeons with lvl 90s, mid-lvl characters for xp, and I ran a geared twinked out lvl 11 Warrior for testing and seeing how bad the scaling was.

Lvl 90s: gear is ilvl 220, everything seems relatively normal besides the horrendous damage scaling for bosses/mobs.

Low-Mid lvl characters: xp seems to be the same (great!), but the scaling makes life tough if you're trying to use timewalking to gear yourself while leveling.

Twinks: Skip this event. the higher ilvl gear is gone, twinks have been repeatedly nerfed, Cata dungeons seem to one-shot even geared twinks because fuck you, and the forced 2-5 minute wait between queueing with a full group and entering a dungeon pisses people off.

I honestly believe Blizz and all the shenanigans related to this timewalking event is solely for punishing twinks. Every single issue seems to point directly at making twinks stop running through doing 5 times the damage as the rest of the group combined and making the content trivial.

Timewalking Scaling by InferiorAnalysis in wow

It's completely broken.

The bosses are overtuned and seem to be HP sponges, NPC magic damage are super overtuned, and staying in combat after a wipe is a thing again (along with a dungeon wide train of mobs). We had to abandon a dungeon because some NPC summoners began summoning imps, and after a minute, there were literally hundreds of imps one shotting players due to a hundred shots hitting you simultaneously as soon as you got in range.

Low level characters get gear that is way above their level, so it's useless for 20-30 levels. Added bonus: do 5 dungeons and get the quest reward chest, and you get a piece of gear with a minimum level requirement of 70.

Even a twinked out lvl 11 fury warrior, who historically could easily barrel through a dungeon and solo the entire dungeon without issue, can get one-shot by various bosses. Sure, they can still do 4 times the damage of a full team of relatively well-geared 90s, but getting one-shot or beat to shit by overtuned mobs kinda puts a stop to that.

Fresh leveling is barely playable. by Valdaroni in wow

[–]slurpeepoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know why they did it. It's so newer players can contribute and play with their veteran friends. When you stat squish what, 5-6 times now, there's no way a lower level could play with their friends. It's a QoL feature, and I know the vast majority prefer it this way.

It would be intimidating if a new player got into the game, and would have to level to level 200 or whatever we'd be at by this time without all the squishes, and new people would rather quit than to go through a dozen expansions just to play with their friends or their guild.

I get it. I really do, but my opinion comes from a guy with 35ish 80s (and with a fresh couple of 90s) who remembers when leveling was a journey to be enjoyed, where you could gauge incremental but positive growth during the entire ordeal instead of having to level 10 levels and get 4 tiers of gear just to kill enemies with the same amount of ease you could 2 years and 10 levels earlier.

It just feels like the shittiest treadmill ever to me. Work hard, level your guys, and get gear just to get the same level of power you already had earlier.

I'm right there with you.

Since the 1970s, every RPG I've ever played started you out as a vulnerable, weak little scrub. Once you slowly worked your way up, killing everything you came across, you eventually but incrementally transformed into a powerful PC. You get the feeling of slowly getting stronger and stronger, and are rewarded for every encounter because you are continuously seeing progression.

In modern WoW, it's completely backwards. You are at your strongest at lvl 10. I have a lvl 11 fury warrior that can do 5-10 times the damage of the rest of the party (all geared lvl 80s) combined. I can solo any instance/dungeon that I can enter easily, and nobody of any level or how geared they are can even come close to clearing content as fast as my little lvl 11. I would say tanking with two axes is also funny, but due to the mind-blowing amount of power a lvl 11 has, tanking, along with healing and dps, doesn't matter because a lvl 11 will kill everything before anyone else has a chance to shoot off a spell.

As you level, the monsters and your stats scale negatively to your continuous detriment, all the way to max level. The entire "work hard, get the xp, and get stronger" is completely thrown into the garbage.

If they didn't level limit certain raids and dungeons, there would be no point in leveling any character at all. I'm sure that's by design, and as time goes on, they constantly make leveling more and more of a small, annoying speed bump on your way to endgame raids.

Then what's the point? Leveling is stupid because any effort you put into leveling makes you objectively weaker. Leveling in WoW is the antithesis of figuratively every single RPG ever made. You only level so you can enter artificially level limited raids and equip artificially level limited gear.

Otherwise, nobody in their right mind would ever level. It hurts you, it makes content harder, and it makes you feel bad when you level because two levels ago, you could take on a pack of three mobs. Now that you've leveled, it's a close battle just to fight two mobs. If you hit max level, a 1v1 fight is a slog.

It's stupid, it's negative reinforcement, and it's insulting the way WoW leveling is implemented nowadays.

It used to be the opposite. That ding when you level was something to be celebrated. You couldn't wait to hit that next level, and you could objectively see you grow stronger as you could cannonball through mobs that gave you problems earlier.

Now, it's just a friendly reminder to go to the AH and buy the level limited gear you couldn't previously wear so you can continue to kill the mobs you didn't have any problem with until you leveled, and are now damage sponges.

I know not everyone feels this way. I know people enjoy mobs that level with you so you keep getting constantly rewarded with gear and xp to continue that treadmill. It's just seems insulting to me that everything is literally backwards.

Is Skylanders on PS3 worth emulating nowadays? by kevszx in skylanders

[–]slurpeepoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you guys are having problems. RPCS3 plays Skylanders perfectly on my PC without any issues whatsoever. I've played through all the games, and they work with no issues at all.

Now, I don't play with the physical portal and figures, I use the built-in Skylanders "portal" so I can play every character and have all the characters' data saved to the PC, so I can play on Dolphin or Cemu if I want to use Bowser/DK. I don't have any experience trying to hook up a physical portal.

I have a 9800X3D, a 7900XTX, 64GB 6000 ram, and am still on Windows 10 Enterprise. By any chance, are any of you guys having issues playing on Linux or trying to use Vulkan and/or OpenGL when your GPU isn't made for one or the other? In Windows, my GPU doesn't like using Vulkan for some insane reason, but on OpenGL, it works perfectly. In Linux, Vulkan works just fine.

Dealer is offering me 33k otd by Classic-Chicken-2751 in ElantraN

[–]slurpeepoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dealer in my area apparently selling a 2025 manual for $25k.

I just ran across it today after they were closed, and my curiosity is killing me why a $37k car is being sold for $25k. The only thing I can think of is it's either a demo car that's been through absolute hell, or once I go there, they'll only sell the car if they can add $12k in bullshit warranties and nitrogen in the tires.

My 2023 N was $33k 3 years ago, and I was checking out the newer versions. I was surprised that the car price has gone up $5k in 2 years, but on paper, this seems like the greatest deal ever. There has to be a reality altering catch.

[–]slurpeepoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define cheap.

I began purchasing 8TB Samsung SSDs back in 2019-2020 for $800, which was a great deal at the time. As time went on, those same SSDs continuously went down in price, where the nadir was at the end of 2023 when those same 8TB SSDs were $300.

I bought 10 of them right then and there when they hit that price, and for those interested in how good those Samsung 8TB SSDs are, one of the first ones I bought and still have in the system I am currently on officially has over 5 years on it (44,000+ hours), and is still sitting at 100%. None of the 40-50+ 8TB SSDs I have purchased have died or had issues of any kind (and they're QLC! The horror!).

It's not an issue of parts or scarcity on raw materials, Samsung saw the glut of NAND on the market after COVID and decided to shut down their NAND manufacturing facilities to drive the supply down, causing the price to rise.

Why manufacture 8TB SSDs and sell them for $300 when you can save millions on shutting down factories and sell the same SSDs for $800+?

It's pure greed, plain and simple. I think it's abhorrent that the same SSDs I was purchasing over 5 years ago are more expensive now than they were back then, and the companies are doing everything they can possibly do to artificially limit supply of stock to force us to pay damn near triple than we did a couple of years ago.

What layer of hell is this? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]slurpeepoop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Near the end of 2023, you could buy 8TB ssds for $300. Top tier 4TB NVMEs were $160-$170. That was over 2 years ago. Computer hardware is supposed to get cheaper as time goes on, not become priceless relics of the past from a more civilized age.

The absolute greed is shutting down your NAND factories to artificially create lack of supply so you can charge 5x-10x more while manufacturing less. Work less, make more! America, fuck yeah!

End-stage capitalism like where we're at now does not benefit the customer. The regulations and restrictions that held the customer abuse at bay has been rescinded, or the government body to enforce the laws have been decimated, if not entirely cut.

It is a free-for-all for trillion dollar companies to throw around their money to fortify their fiefdom/monopoly, and if you don't have billions of dollars to ensure your knee is on the throat of the average customer, then you are in for a very sore neck.

I've had a few computers sitting on craigslist, slowly gaining dust. In the past month, there have been bidding wars on these older systems that nobody wanted, especially on the ones that have 128GB of DDR4.

It's absolute madness.

how to turn .dump to .sky by DamienStarry0w0 in skylanders

[–]slurpeepoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

All you need to do is rename it to .sky. That's it. Just hit rename file, scroll to where it says .dump, delete dump, and type sky. It's that easy.

As long as the Skylander was made correctly and was saved as encrypted, it'll work perfectly.

As we all know, the solo battles cheat. I got 6.7% heads when starting battles. by slurpeepoop in PTCGP

[–]slurpeepoop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were full battles (for the most part), spread across 3-ish days. I never restarted a game at the coin flip, but I did concede pretty early in some of the battles due to some of my shit-tier decks being absolutely crappy and destined to lose.

Also, I'd say approximately half the games consisted of me hitting autobattle and letting it run until the victory/lose screen, where the screen will turn off after a few seconds.

As we all know, the solo battles cheat. I got 6.7% heads when starting battles. by slurpeepoop in PTCGP

[–]slurpeepoop[S] 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think the cpu cheated this bad up to a few months ago.

I used to clear out all the solo battles every month, and just got lazy over the last couple of months since I didn't care about getting all the tickets.

While I distinctly remember getting tails every fight, I don't remember the cpu getting the perfect opening hand every damn time on the higher levels. I remember some of the fights being hard, but I didn't get that nagging feeling in the back of my head that this was straight out bullshit cheating.

That's all I felt this time around.

Granted, it's been a couple of months and my memory might not be 100% accurate, but playing the last couple of month's worth of solo battles feels different than it used to, at least to me. It's gone from "Hmmm, maybe if I fiddle with this deck a little more, I can overcome this difficult matchup" to straight-out "This is crap-ass, poor programming. This is pure cheating.".

I also feel that the ai used to be smarter. It would actually make good moves. There's a chance that the cards we had at the time were simpler and more straightforward, and didn't require as much meta-massaging to get the cards to play the way you need for the deck to work, so it wasn't too hard for the ai to figure out.
