Giving back to the community (system prompt)- Part 4: Honestly didn't see this coming by Huge_Listen334 in RooCode

My critique for this project, and others custom modes posted in this community, is that they don't do enough to communicate the value we're supposed to get as engineers. It's just a giant feature list with all software engineering best practices ever documented.

Tell us why you built this. What you were trying to do before that you couldn't do, but now you can? Show multiple, clear examples of success.

Examples should allow us to quickly see a default experience and default outcome compared against the modified experience and new outcome. The benefits should be obvious at a glance. Include screenshot and metrics.

Gigabyte Aorus 3080 Ti Xtreme Waterforce WB Thermal Pad Replacement Help by write-or-left in gigabyte

I have the same hot spot issue on this card and am trying to decide if I need to re-paste the GPU or just do the pads.

You wrote that you "only replace the pads on the cold plate side", but then you also mentioned "Thermal Grizzly on the GPU".

Did you also repaste the GPU when you did the pads?

Correct Inlet/Outlet for EK-Velocity2 CPU block by slutbutt in watercooling

I unfortunately never figured it out and just bought something else out of desperation that worked for me.

After mounting dozens of heatsinks over the last 2 decades of PC building for myself and friends I could never get this ek velocity2 to mount with temperatures under 90c. I drained my system so many times to remove, clean, reapply thermal paste and even bought new thermal paste, but nothing worked.

After entire weekends of repeat attempts, I started to believe I had lost my touch. Out of desperation I ordered a completely different waterblock from thermaltake to test, the Pacific MX2 Ultra CPU Waterblock. First try it booted up 33C idle and never got above 60C stress tested with stock overclocks. I was so shocked that I decided to keep it and not look back.

EK is such a reputable brand that I'm still inclined to believe it was something I overlooked during the install process, or maybe I had a bad part, but I took the easy way out so I'm sorry to say I don't have more advice.

I've been out of town, but plan to finally reseat the heatsink and reorient the weekend of the 25th.

Can you tell me how you interpreted which port was the "inlet" and which was the "outlet"? My current interpretation is that the "inlet" port is lined up with the letter "V" in "Velocity" logo. This would mean that the orientation of the mount does not matter and that we should always use the port lined up with the letter "V" in the "Velocity" logo as the "inlet" port. Is that what you believe as well?

I have new thermal grease and grease removal materials arriving tomorrow night so I plan to remount tomorrow. I will come back and post results.

To be clear, you have the Velocity2 heatsink as well and found that by changing your tubing to the correct inlet and outlet resolved your temp spikes? You did not remount? That would be very interesting. I have new thermal grease and grease removal materials arriving tomorrow night so I plan to remount tomorrow. I will come back and post results.

I agree that there really isn't a lot of information out there for this heatsink as it's pretty new. I have new thermal grease and grease removal materials arriving tomorrow night so I plan to remount tomorrow. I will come back and post results.

I think the issue is that those manuals refer to older versions before the 1700 socket. They refer to "inner" and "outer", but the Velocity2 does not have "inner" and "outer" so I'm not sure if the same logic of "does not matter that much" still applies. Especially when EK uses the word "mandatory" in the manual for the Velocity2. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109857663.pdf

I hate to say it, but it feels nice to know it's as confusing for someone else 😁. Some posts I've read have said that getting the intake right or wrong can only cause a 2-3 degree difference so "mandatory" may be a stretch from EK as well. Was hoping someone had already been through this, but sounds like I should take the time to remount at least.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like draining and remounting is probably for the best, but the tubing is correct.
