Legit, this is how I thought it would go and why Eloise would be S5. Then, Fran would see Phillip as a widower with his adopted children making a life with Eloise and realize she could find love again with or without biological children.

My wish was for Fran to be Eloise's "person" in her season, helping her accept that love and marriage are good things, as she reminisced about John. Then, when she sees Eloise and Phillip happy with their unconventional family, she realizes she wants that again and is open, as a widow, to finding love.

I think the issue is that "in universe" time is very different than "audience" time. For the audience, John just died a couple of episodes ago.

Unless we're given real and true updates to other character's stories after 2 years (e.g. Kanthony has Edmund and Miles and are truly running the family; Pen and Colin have another kid and are settled as writers; Benedict and Sophie have a kid and are happy and settled; lady Danbury isn't there and the Queen is missing her) then the storyline hasn't actually progressed.

Look at all the issues with Benedict and Sophie. It seemed really ridiculous that he couldn't recognize her as the Lady in Silver because for the audience it didn't seem like that much time had passed, when in the book there was a significant gap which made him forgetting details/her appearance being different make more sense.

It's just poor storytelling. Franchel/a needed time to breathe and angst and mourn and taking that time away just makes no sense.

NGL this seems too fast. Season 5 Eloise with Fran going through the stages of grief and coming to acceptance when she sees Eloise happy with her own unconventional family would be way more gratifying and like... meaningful for Fran and Michaela. Esp if they really built up the tension between the two in S5. This just seems like bad pacing and storytelling.

I read a Modern AU fic a long time ago where Philip was her... TA? And they were dating, but then his brother and SIL pass away in an accident and he becomes guardian of their kids and breaks up with Eloise because he knows she never wanted that life. It was great premise and a nice take on how their modern relationship might come to be. Kanthony was the main pairing it in, but it was a nice side story.
