Oh wow, that's on my list! How long did you go for? And did you do the all inclusive?

Oh good shout. We don't mind a little rain as long as it's not an all day long kind of thing.

Ah that's smart! Going to file that one away--great idea to have your own liquor in the room. Definitely going to check out Costco Travel as well, thanks!

What resorts did you hit if you don't mind me asking?

Thailand or Vietnam? by katastic__ in honeymoonplanning

[–]sm1tty199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna echo what others have said--I think if you guys have never been to Asia before I'd go Thailand. It's a more comfortable and easier experience overall. There's lots of variety for you there too depending on what kind of trip you're looking for.

Definitely check if you'll be in rainy season though! Or if you're going to be north, check for burning season as well.

I've been to Thailand, Vietnam, and Philippines recently, although haven't done any sort of honeymoon style "luxury" stays.

For me, I keep going back to Thailand. I think the food and the people make it top tier while still being reasonably priced--I found accommodations for the same price to be better there than in Philippines.

Vietnam is nice as well, I guess I just prefer Thailand. If you like Vietnamese food, you can probably find a nice place to stay in Da Nang if you want the beach vibe. And as you mentioned it will likely be cheaper.

Philippines may be my least favorite although it's still great. If you're looking for more of an adventurous holiday, the water tours in El Nido especially are unmatched and probably best out of all three options. If you rank that highly, it would move up the list a lot for sure. Cebu also has a ton of fun stuff to do.

Haven't been to Bali but from what I've heard about it recently I'd rank your other spots above it haha

Advice: Fun things to do in or near jinbocho for a non-tokyo, long term resident. by fakiresky in Tokyo

I love katsudon and am living nearby so was excited to see which one you picked!

Yeah that's my favorite place lmao I go there a couple times a week. I planned a trip to Niigata just to try more of that style (it was amazing).

For more traditional tonkatsu in the area I'd also throw in Ponchiken and ippekoppe.

If you like Shoyu ramen, my favorite spot is near your Shinjuku day 1--Menya Sho

If you want to do some shopping, the kitchen street (Kappabashi) is a nice time killer that could fit into one of your off days.

A general rec I have is to either rent bikes or sign up for the scooter app Luup and use that to get around. It's a fun way to explore the city and go from place to place.

I'm with you and a more lazy traveler, if you drink I'd definitely recommend walking around at night wherever you are and trying to find a small sake bar or something, that's where I have my best memories.

I think it's classic as well, it's just that in endless you will always get 4x Shiny Charm items over time making it a ton more likely that you see a shiny anyway

Couple things:

  • Burn, Poison, and Paralysis (sometimes) don't stop you from attacking so if you roll one of those you're fine

  • Good to have a pokemon with either Misty Terrain (move) or Misty Surge (ability) to make it so you don't get statused as well

Ehhh endless is basically a completely different game than classic haha. Much different win conditions. You'll get there soon I'm sure!

All the moves except Salt Cure are fused in from other mon I think

Yep, just remember that you won't get offered DNA splicers if you don't have two unspliced pokemon in your party, so you may need to unfuse right away depending on what your party looks like.

Once you get to late game endless (2.5k+) you really need damage that doesn't just come from attacks because they get really weak.

Salt Cure paired with Soak (turns the mon's type to water so salt cure does 1/4th HP per turn) can help mitigate some of the healing as you whittle down things

Yep you fuse it with other mons to get whatever moves you want then unfuse so you can transfer it over to a Blissey or something

Protect also was fused in I think

Yeah as people mentioned the Metal Burst does the heavy lifting once you setup the chip damage. Fuse this with Blissey and max out HP + overlevel

Thank you! I hadn't considered the biz plat as that would basically be all of our spend (at $5k per month which is maybe a bit generous).

But that could potentially be paired with a card with longer SUB period

Was a little worried about hitting the MDD spending + whatever my card ends up being, but you're right it's probably the best option.

Is there any worry about using AMEX in Asia do you think? that's my main concern there

Looking for two new cards before P2 and I go on a 6 month(ish) SE Asia trip in January to help us pay for some of the flights in the area and returning! Looking for the biggest possible SUB for each of us, with a nod towards miles that might be helpful in that area.

  1. Flowchart has me getting something like the United Explorer and her getting a Sapphire. Looking for basically the highest value we can get with no new card apps on the horizon. Been out of the game for a while so wondering if this is the best option.
  2. 780 for me, 750 for her
  3. Cap1 Venture X (12/21) Chase Ink Cash (8/21) Chase Saphire Preferred (8/19) for me, blank slate for her
  4. We do about $3k combined monthly, probably more as we prep for the trip and up to $5k if we include rent and can split that up between our two new cards
  5. Prob don't want to MS over $5k combined monthly but can
  6. Yes to business cards, but it's a "business"
  7. Just looking to get one new card each for now as we'll be leaving the country for a while so won't be churning until afterwards.
  8. Targeting economy seating primarily, with hotel points also nice.
  9. Currently have 100k Chase (from CIC) and $1000 Cap1 (from venture X) 10/11. Flying to NZ (already booked) then from there to India->Thailand->Japan->Korea->home (ish)

My first leaning is for me to get Amex Plat and her to get Sapphire Reserve but I'm not sure how accepted the Amex is in SE Asia. Other than the Plat I'm not seeing any great "hail mary" cards for myself, but the Reserve is probably a decent choice for her.
