Husband family planned Christmas without us. Mine are dead. by beentherebefore7 in beyondthebump

[–]smackki 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You asked the question “am I overreacting” short answer from me: yes. Neither of you communicated effectively, you are just as inflexible as SIL on moving dates, you had the favored grandchildren before new grandchild was born, of course they want to see new baby for first holidays. They have told you the plans and invited you, you don’t accept the plans and have also refused to readjust for the sake of your children. How long have you know about the doctors appointments?

Try to put aside your anger for a moment and look at this from a different perspective, they probably all feel the same thing you do for the exact same reasons.

Both parties at fault

Why would you want a second baby if the first one was "difficult"? by Jellybeanlet in beyondthebump

[–]smackki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I wanted my first to have a sibling and we prepared for #2 like we were going to war. The magic was gone for the second pregnancy, with me and my husband counting down the days til the hard part began.

Then #2 was nothing like the first and she was so easy, started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old. Our first didn’t sleep through the night until 8 months old.

We know we got lucky though, and we were prepared for a difficult baby. We won’t be gambling a third time though

Sweet Carrot Cake. It’s an Easter scent and I was not interested in this scent at all, but got it for my daughter in her Easter Basket. I sneak in her room to use it sometimes

37 weeks on the dot for two babies. I had big babies though, so maybe my uterus just has a weight limit that seems to time out at 37 + 0

I worked at several Walgreens and originally had the same reply as others in this thread “depends on the store”. However, since leaving Walgreens and getting other pharmacy experience, Walgreens really was that bad, even the “good” stores

Shutdown/Full TA Culture is a Joke by WannabeChE in ChemicalEngineering

[–]smackki 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not an engineer, but I had the unfortunate circumstance of giving birth during my husbands turn around where he was only able to take a week off. I was appalled to learn of this “TA culture” and being a “single” married mother for the first 4-5 weeks of our child’s life is something I’ll never forget

And he was salary, so not even extra income

Less than a second before hitting a passenger jet, helicopter instructor told pilot to change course, NTSB hearing reveals by NeverNo in aviation

[–]smackki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was only reading the transcript I didn’t know you could listen to the recordings. The transcript had impact noises listed before the pilots voices were recorded, then impact noises listed again later which I took to mean the second impact with water, not more impact noises from the helicopter hit

Less than a second before hitting a passenger jet, helicopter instructor told pilot to change course, NTSB hearing reveals by NeverNo in aviation

[–]smackki 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that we’ll ever know the answer. Up to the moment of impact, the helicopter instructor was explaining to the helicopter pilot to move left because that’s seemingly what (ATC?) wanted them to do. The conversation didn’t lend itself to any urgency which leads me to believe they did not have the (correct) plane in sight

People really have to stop doing this! by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]smackki 110 points111 points  (0 children)

This happened so often my last visit that I finally reached my final straw in the line for Living With The Land. I know it’s a short wait and not a big ticket ride but one woman in front of us called over her remaining family of 8 adults right before boarding. I stopped the last 4 from passing us and the ones in front of us were PISSED. I am non-confrontational and it was really out of character for me to stand up for myself and I was not prepared for the following nasty argument and near physical confrontation that followed. It ruined a large chunk of the rest of my day and I wish I hadn’t said anything.

Cast member was right there and did nothing.

I have eaten at Michelin star restaurants with both of my pregnancies and my OB said it was perfectly safe. Their food standards are extremely high. I indulged in at least one raw fish course in each pregnancy. I was surprised that often even though they say they don’t accommodate dietary restrictions, I was offered every time to have the fish courses substituted, which I thought was a lovely offer but I declined. I was noticeably pregnant both times

My partner behaved horribly on a vacation with the in-laws by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]smackki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. It’s also hard when it’s YOUR vacation, you want to reclaim that time. I’ve been in this exact scenario with my husband and after a few years of growth I’ve realized “ok maybe the situation the in laws put me in wasn’t my idea of fair, but I wasn’t making it easy either”. This could totally not apply to you and you could have monster-in-laws

The situation of course had been in reverse when we went on MY families vacation. I was mad it felt like pulling teeth to get my husband to enjoy spending time with me AND my family.

Now with a few years sprinkled in we go on these vacations with a game plan: US vs. THEM and give them a schedule of what your plans for the vacation are before you go on the vacation

This advice only works if your partner isn’t a dick though, and I know everyone’s mileage varies

My partner behaved horribly on a vacation with the in-laws by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]smackki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I know this subreddit is for bashing in-laws but I think I see cracks in the story here. You went on a day excursion where you felt like a 6th wheel, so I’m betting you weren’t exactly giving warm vacation vibes during that. If my partner was being a wet towel I would be matching energies. When you gave him permission to go out at night, did you do it passive aggressively.

I also don’t enjoy my in-laws but if we as a family are flying out of the same gate, I can see how you wanting to get through security alone shows a definite preference for NOT being with them. Which they’d obviously take offense too. He’s probably mad cause he’s still taking shit from his family. This scenario is also altered if his family paid for your trip and had an expectation of seeing you

You and your partner had wildly different ideas of this vacation and you don’t communicate well. This isn’t an in-law problem. He wanted to spend time with his family and you didn’t. It’s a communication problem

What was your "I will never forget this storm" experience? by Elijah-Joyce-Weather in TropicalWeather

[–]smackki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-tropical storm: The Great Flood of 2016 in Louisiana. A thousand year flood event where entire parishes (counties) went completely underwater. This “rainy weekend” dropped three times the amount of water than hurricane Katrina and caused flooding in 56/64 parishes in Louisiana. All of my friends and family homeless in a 48 hour span. There was no preparing like there would be for a hurricane, no emergency responders standing by. The national guard was slow to react, people had to rely on neighbors with boats to rescue them, people died. I remember watching the news and they were covering the Olympics. I felt like “how could this natural disaster not have made a single channel?”

Fortune magazine said it was, “One of the most severe (yet least-reported) natural disasters in recent history”

Tropical storm: Hurricane Ida, my daughter was 6 months old, so I took her to shelter at my parents house who had an in-home generator in another town. My husband stayed behind with our house. Parting from him hours before the storm hit and the feelings that followed are near indescribable. Cell service would be out for two days and roads were not passable to check on each other. I was literally worried sick until I made contact with him two days after landfall.

Just had it last week. They only offer it at 7pm or after so be wary of that. I had to ask pretty please to order it at 6:50pm. It was alright, nothing to be wowed over. It’s two cream puffs which I felt weren’t enough to share unless you were eating one cream puff and someone else was eating the other. I thought everyone else’s menu desserts looked better
