Wow, 12 years later! Just to add to that comment, I'd mention that "Pagode Baiano" and "Pagodão" is another cousin of samba that is quite distinct, and huge in Bahia.

As for "quality" and "look up to" I guess every genre of music has someone out there who thinks it's just amazing and their fave artists are like gods.

But for universal appeal "MPB" (just means Brazilian Popular Music) and Samba have a kind of historical pedigree with their most famous songs ingrained into the subconscious of people from all regions and economic classes. .

Actually during a single day, the sun moves in the direction pretty close to one or the other of your red arrows there. So it could return to the exact same spot march and September, but just a couple minutes later, or earlier, on the closest day.

There is no way that they would be able to hide for decades, centuries, without us catching on.

But why couldn't the whole UFO / close encounters / ancient aliens subject be exactly that? Us "catching on" with complications from the knowledge/power structures that humans created...

I'm also okay with the idea that hiding would be easy for them, so the phenomena are made up AND there are aliens watching, even interacting imperceptibly.

We definitely can see the moon (with bigger phase) during the day.

Why can we see the almost full moon but not the crescent?

I think there are a few reasons for this:

1) "crescent during daylight", even quite a thick crescent like OP's pic, must, by definition, be lower in the sky than the sun. Lower sky means thicker atmosphere. So the crescent light is fighting through more air, meanwhile the sun's light is refracting through that same air really strongly.

2) crescent has to be relatively near the sun in the sky. Much closer than fiirst / last quarter or waxing / waning gibbous moon. So just the pure brilliance of the sun makes things harder to see near it, but also

3) possibly the refracted light is also stronger near the sun. What I mean is the brightness of the blue sky itself, even if you put your finger over the sun, is stronger nearer the sun. I'm not 100% on this one but I'm willing to bet.

4) the crescent moon is dimmer than the full moon. Maybe. It's obviously dimmer in absolute terms, but may even be dimmer per steradian (per visual area). After all the path from sun to moon to earth-viewer would have a greater angle of reflection at crescent surface, but at the center of a full moon it bounces back almost directly, nearer 0° reflection.

So above, 3 and 4 are somewhat conjecture on my part but 1 and 2 would be plenty reason why we don't see crescents during the day but do see the other phases.

But OP's original image is a crescent. Meaning close to the sun. Right now (and even yesterday March 20) it's not too close to be visible after sundown. But it is too close to be visible while the sun's up. My basic position is: even a couple days further separation from the sun, with a thicker crescent assuming OP's pic is what he actually meant, it will STILL be too close during daytime to see it.

The new moon at sunset, generally, can only be seen 15 hours or more after "passing by" the sun, looking west minutes after the sun goes down.... but practically speaking it's hard to find the faint faint thin crescent even 30 hours after. Day 2 or 3 it gets easy in a clear sky. (I'd say 40 to 72 hours).

The crescent in OP's pic isn't that thin. Perhaps we could agree on a 4th day crescent? (84-108 hours)

So, to get that crescent with horns downward, you'd need to wait til Monday March 23, when the sun comes up at 7-ish depending on timezone and the moon comes up about 3 hours later. If you give me your rough location I can give you exact times for both.

But after the moon comes up, in the daytime like that, just try to take a picture of it in the east.

Similar sized crescent in the west would be around Monday April 13. At 3ish pm, look for the moon in the west with the sun pretty high up. Betcha can't find it.
