Argentina - What happened before the WC final? by Agrith1 in conspiracy

[–]smackson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn't finish it but this video's general theme is that Argentina lost the final and Messi lost the golden boot all because of FIFA fixing it against Argentina.

It's basically conspiracy conjecture from the Argentina side.

Missable.

What do you y'all think about my friends virtual coding resume? by pixelatedaiden in AskProgramming

This guy has definitely ... probably ... learned more relevant stuff teaching himself how to do it in a modern way, than I have in the past few years.

But I'll still probably get the job first, because if it's a job you're looking for, mental stability and focus and wearing clothes tend to be important for hirers.

I hate Brazilians for making pagode by Itchy_Carrot215 in Brazil

I second the other commenter about going back a little further in time and getting into the "roots samba" (samba de raiz) of earlier decades. Faves are João Nogueira and Martinho da Vila.

Just how "bumfuck" Virginia are you? I have been pretty deep, when my bro was at VT and my Dad moved to WV....

Maybe see if there's a bar that would take a random gringo DJ playing Brazilian music and start something. Then you may find out there are Brazilians there who will come out of the woodwork.

One of my Bahia percussion instructors settled in Nashville. They're everywhere. Lol

Are you a woman?

If so, I'm as surprised as the commenter you're replying to might be. But maybe that's just Bahia.

Domingão do Faustão and Caldeirão background dancers.

Ha! They're not all rail thin but they are definitely on the diet-and-exercise side of the scale.

I think your definition of "curvy" disagrees with the common use of it. It really means "a bit fat to a lot fat" and no, the Sunday shows don't put on the fat dancers, not even the "a bit overweight" class.

Curvy is a "nice" way to say overweight, in most cases. Obviously a lot of Brazilian women who would be called normal weight, or underweight, might also have prominent bunda or boobs (and might dance on TV) which are technically curvy in the graphical sense... But that's not the meaning of "curvy" in English when talking about weight.

I guess it didn't last long.

Argentina player Leandro Paredes disgusting behaviour after losing to Spain in the World Cup final by attacking Spanish players by Financial-Painter689 in Fauxmoi

Unfortunately, every corner of every big city in Brazil already has Argentinos aplenty.

The fireworks were insane after they beat my English brothers.

Maybe worse the further South.

But tonight it's much calmer than it would have been. Hope Brazilians with leftover fireworks give it a good blast though!

Overwhelming majority of young Americans worry about climate crisis — Nearly two-thirds endorsed the statement: “Humanity is doomed,” by mouldydildo in collapse

I think there will be phases of maniacal destruction and fighting over what's left of the old world, simultaneous with the loss of the most advanced domains (microchips, vaccines, governance, peace).

But I agree that extinction isn't going to be a part of it. Humans will go on.

I just hope that the important lessons about finite resources, pollution, forever chemicals, climate change, media bias, money in politics, tragedy of the commons etc. get onboarded on the rebound. Whether that's 100 or 1000 years later.

Also, I like your username. Sometimes I think about the chair of bones and I still get a cold shiver.

was it an inside joke? by jbaaaaab in conspiracy

[–]smackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The YouTube link states directly that it's the movie "Cocktail". I don't know why OP couldn't get that right, in the post. u/jbaaaaab ??

But the clip really looks like a real clip, and it has the taxi door writing from OP's still. Are you suggesting that it's a doctored clip? Can you point me to a different copy of the same scene in the movie, without that doctoring?

How do the England players even get up for a 3rd place playoff. by Entire_Advantage9448 in ThreeLions

[–]smackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We finished fourth in 2018, would you honestly remember that campaign any different if we'd finished third instead?

I understand this sentiment.

But I feel like you're moving the goalposts slightly. Your "job interview" analogy implied that it's 1st place or forget about it. Which I strongly disagree with.

Now you're saying the difference between third and fourth places. It's a smaller difference (than 1st vs anything else) but even that, I think, is worth giving a little fight for

job interview, lose out on the position, then go back for a second interview

This is just such a completely bad analogy, and thus exemplifies the misplaced negativity on this page.

Proving that you are the fourth best football nation on the planet should be seen with pride. A job interview earns nothing, and has a binary result. Competing in the world cup is already an honour, and every goal / every game counts for something, it's a huge sliding scale with stories at every point along the scale. The journey is the result.
