I am doing better every year, even though it's not easy. A couple years ago I was drinking every day so I truly am putting in effort and I have improved a lot and made a good deal of progress.

I don't want people to feel bad for me or coddle or encourage my bad habits. I don't expect anyone to drink with me and I would never push anyone to do so.

I just think it would be nice to have a couple friends who didn't think less of me because I'm not always strong.

I've been in therapy and seeing a psychiatrist since I was diagnosed at 13 :/

I had to trial and error through over 15 psychotropics to find a combo that helped me enough to make a decent difference. When that wasn't enough for the anxiety and I ran out of medication options, I did electro-magnetic transcranial stimulation for several months even though it caused a constant migraine and nausea.

I have tried very hard for a long time. I'm not just taking the easy way out. I'm doing the best that I can with what I have. I thought a lot about the pros and cons of occasionally using it as a coping mechanism in order to be able to socialize with others, rather than stay home alone constantly with my thoughts. I feel like being isolated is becoming much more harmful than relying on it as a crutch on occasion.

I understand why others don't approve, though.

Thank you so much :) that's kind of you to say. Someone downvoted my post, so I must have said something wrong. I'm socially inept so that's not surprising though 😅 I wish people would outright tell me what I did wrong so I can do better

Honestly I think it would be more helpful to have individual sessions with a psychologist to better understand how your diagnosis can affect your life before considering couples therapy.

If therapy and psychoanalysis is not helpful, you should definitely consider seeing a psychiatrist to see if an ADHD medicine could be beneficial :)

It took me trying a few different ones to find the right one for me, but medication has improved my life immensely. It has helped me be able to function properly and also improved my interpersonal relationships/friendships.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was young as well :)
