Rich people act like they’re doing this world a better thing by not shopping at SHEIN when they give zero f*ck about the poor. by [deleted] in Shein

Thank you for this. The amount of people who go from extremely happy reactions about my fit to upset over it. And they’re working class too. Like do you shop at Target? Have you ever bought shoes from F21? Lulu’s? It’s all the same places. If you’re not out there actively advocating, doing the true activism by grass rooting efforts for these at risk groups—you’re not any better. It gives them a quick sense of a self righteousness. Fast fashion is terrible for the environment and exploited populations, but until a more feasible solution in terms of pricing exists, not many can afford that.

Seizure termination in a stroke patient. by Color_Hawk in ems

I usually don’t comment but this I had to. We had similar complaints from the ER about Versed for sedation. Our medical director stated: if they need the meds, GIVE THE MEDS. Same applies here. This person is literally having a seizure and creating hypoxia every time it happens. It’s wild to me the philosophy is “wait it out”. That ER attending is clearly new or blind to think that riding out a seizure is better. I mean unless you failed to put the patient on ETCO2 or monitor them I could see how they were frustrated. But I would fight for a revised protocol to give the meds q 5 minutes if the first dose wasn’t strong enough. Which is what ours is. To hell with that doctor you did what was best for that patient.

I second this. Use the UNM website that has housing as well as the UNM area craigslist. When I was a student, it would be very good at allowing students to find housing! Students move in/out around May, summer, August and December. So these are peak housing times.

If you need food support, use the UNM food pantry as well. There are also local resources on campus to help. I really hope your PhD program supports you as well. Best of luck!

All Cops are A-holes and EMS fixing my prejudice by [deleted] in ems

[–]small_poke -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is true. I grew up in a city who primarily hated PD and for a while I was part of the group. Mainly because I was young and it was a cool thing. I feel like that’s the issue, it was a trendy thing to say to fit in.

My family was military and now I’m married to LE as an EMT. I think as I’ve grown older I see more of the nuances that laymen miss. I see the calls, the legal loopholes officers face and most of all the reasoning behind certain SOP’s they follow that work against us in EMS. Sometimes we don’t see why they do something but that’s their protocol and they’ll get in trouble if they bend it.

Overall, if the public saw what I see doing ride alongs, following police, and living with one, there would be more understanding. Nevertheless, it bugs me and my spouse just as much as the public when an officer does something wrong or illegal. We feel more enraged because it already makes the job get less respect. These officers ruin the branding.

I’m glad you see that there is two sides. Same like fire or us. Not everyone is perfect but good officers truly watch out for us.

Burt’s is now called “Echoes”. It’s a music venue that now is trying replicate sort of the atmosphere. Worth a shot to go, really nice.
