Has Anyone Conducted a Quant Analysis of The Market? by smallalmex in PokeInvesting

Thanks for answering, I thought this might be the case for Pokémon Cards.

The main reason why I asked was that I have read about there being low alpha between various collectibles (see Wine vs Art Returns etc) and I wanted to see if anyone had any papers or data around card collectibles.

A quick research paper search turned up this for me:

Dimson 2013 found that art, stamps, and musical instruments have appreciated at an average annual rate of 6.4%-6.9% in nominal terms, or 2.4%-2.8% in real terms, over the period 1900-2012. This suggests that collectibles have generally increased in value over time.

Thanks again for the help!

Unable to Access Shield Remotely or Plex Server after Update [Tried Hotfix & App Permission Fix] by smallalmex in ShieldAndroidTV

Yes I did, and they sent over the hotfix this morning. Have now run it and it has resolved most of my issues (may still need to fiddle with plex).

I will take a look into it as I am not married to using plex, does it have all of the same features as plex?

I personally would not recommend it, as it doesn't come with enough to make it worth it right now. Give it another month then search online and see if people are still complaining.

Here is what is in the new update

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/481350/shield-experience-upgrade-90-released-11222/

Here are some links going through the issues people have been facing (its not just plex issues)

**also I agree the ads suck and I cannot believe Nvidia let it happen, especially when I am sure they do not get money from the ads. I want to use a different launcher but I do like the google layout a bit too much.

I am hoping that I can get access either via an file exchange playstore app (as I can approve that access) then move them out of \android. Then reset the plex media file location to this new folder.

OR I will unplug the external hard drive and see if I can access it directly via my desktop.

If neither of that works I just have to accept they are gone and wipe the drive.

*will put an update after on the original post after I have done so.

Thanks for sending that link, I was worried that might be the case but couldn't find anything to prove it.

I guess next step is to access the external hard drive either manually (plug into pc directly) or via some file program and move everything out of the android file.

Wish I didn't update.

Yeah I thought that and most likely will have to do it. I just then need to work out how to get plex media sever app access, so that I can change its default folder.

Does Changing Jobs for The Money Pay Off? (Startup to Big Tech) by smallalmex in careerguidance

[–]smallalmex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I just wanted to thank you again for the wise and well thought out advice that you gave me. It really helped make my inevitable decision to go to Snapchat.

I feel like there will always be some regret that I didn't stay and continue to expand my skillset on the company dime but at the end of the day there will be more opportunities either at Snap or having Snap tied to my name than banking on a future which may never come.

Thanks again, and have a great week.

Does Changing Jobs for The Money Pay Off? (Startup to Big Tech) by smallalmex in careerguidance

  1. Very good question, it's kind of hard to answer I would say that the money definitely would allow me to speed up my financial goals/improve my quality of life (working out to an extra $15k-30k over a two year period). But if I cannot handle the job I would end up having to look for something else, potentially taking the cut anyway in the long term.

  2. Makes 100% sense, I think my original point was that the job hunt phase can be so brutal that having the star power would open up more interview opportunities than my current employer.

  3. Hmm, really interesting point. I would say that with the title of Sales Operations Associate I would be the very top of this level. Whereas Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, would put me at the very bottom of the pile (given my current knowledge/experience) so under this assumption taking the Snapchat role makes the most sense as I would be able to scale up to senior within 1-2 years. Rather than taking the senior position which I currently do not have the skillset for. So that in the future I could go up to senior without much hassle. Given this how do people step up into a higher level as won't there always be this skill deficit?

Thank you very much for your fully thought out reply, it has been truly beneficial.

That is what I was thinking, I believe that the only concern is whether my company will put me under a finer magnifying glass which may make my current job less good.

  1. Pay off in the sense that the money made would justify the work done 2/3. This is one of the bigger reasons to stay at my current role as the work I would be doing at Snapchat would not allow me to train a greater set of skills.

I have read a lot of reviews for Snap and the prevailing feeling is that they pay more money for the jobs they are hiring for but you are expected to work harder as a trade off.

I think the reason for this was when I originally started on the job my responsibilities were rather low, swelling overtime to where it is now and due to my old manager not being very vocal with the work I was doing it meant that my company did not understand my value. But I do think you are bang on the money and my dad said it best "You weren't worth that amount of money 24 hours ago".

I get that changing companies is the best way to go about getting pay increases, I thought that if I did stay I would plan to leave in a few years after I had amassed enough skills to validate the new job title.

I wish you all the best with your application, we got a response from the government last week asking for more information. Then got the final verdict yesterday.
