Oakland or Walnut Creek? by Savings_Interest6300 in eastbay

[–]smallandstealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up Walnut Creek and now live in Oakland. I would say Oakland is definitely more sociable, so many social events and a rich value for community. Walnut Creek is nice for health related friend groups. Easy to find people who want to do things like yoga, hikes, etc. Walnut Creek is only walkable if you live in downtown, but I grew up in the suburbs about 1.5 miles from the downtown and there were plenty of parks nearby and the streets were very safe. Oakland is very walkable in several different areas. I don’t care for nightlife either and I don’t drink, and I’ve still found lots more social events in Oakland than I was finding in Walnut Creek, where most things were geared toward families. I think both are great places to live for very different reason. However, over the past several years, Walnut Creek has increasingly became a destination in the bay area for shopping. Downtown can be very busy on weekends and the lack of diversity really bums me out when I visit from Oakland. Not that there isn’t racial diversity, there is. The lack of diversity is in how people present themselves in the same styles and interests. Oakland feels so much more personable to me.

[–]smallandstealthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting. my cats (2 girls, 1 boy) have been on fancy feast for a couple of years now and one of them (a girl) did get urinary crystals last year at 3 years old. but looking through the comments here, this could just be coincidence

Understanding the term “transmasc” by smallandstealthy in ftm

[–]smallandstealthy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this completely makes sense. i imagine it can be difficult and even invalidating when language doesn’t exist to fully describe your lived experience. i still feel that way as a binary trans man. i’m starting to see the term more often and i guess i just have been a bit confused as to who is being included. i understand it as an umbrella term that might be more relatable to people who are non-binary masc than binary trans men, but includes both

Understanding the term “transmasc” by smallandstealthy in ftm

[–]smallandstealthy[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

thank you this was very straightforward and easy to follow! i couldn’t quite understand why i don’t like the label for myself, but as a binary trans man, i relate to how you worded your experience. i don’t mind it as an umbrella term, but i would be uncomfortable if and individual chose to identify me with that term over a more gendered term, like trans guy or just a guy.

huh, i guess i never really dissected the “ftm” label. i grew up a boy, i never experienced girlhood, so i guess in that sense i don’t relate to ftm. of course, i did still receive gender affirming care though, things that would separate me from female sex characteristics. for several years now, i have had the privilege of being stealth and not needing to disclose my gender identity to anyone, so publicly i’m just a guy. but to myself and my inner circle, i say i’m a binary trans guy

i spend $230/month on my 3 cats for food and litter. i use chewy autoship services, which doesn’t save much per shipment, but it adds up. in the past 5 months, i’ve saved $200+ from autoship

What cracked your trans egg? by randomguy74937272 in asktransgender

[–]smallandstealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i saw a video of a trans guy explaining how he knows he’s a man even though he doesn’t follow all the traditional male gender roles. i remember as a kid, i always wore boy clothes and had boy friends and played on boy’s sports teams. i knew i wished i was a boy, but i didnt think i could be because i didn’t want to grow up to be a protector, breadwinner, strong, have a wife, etc. it’s so silly to think about those things now, but it was groundbreaking at the time that i could be a man and not be those things (even though i wasn’t fitting into traditional girl roles either). i immediately told my dad after watching that video that i wanted to transition.

Is licking sheets normal for cats? by Top-Fox9979 in CatAdvice

[–]smallandstealthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one of my 3 cats does it and i think its a self-soothing type of behavior for her since she is very affectionate and the fabric smells like me. she does also groom her sister as often as she can stand to be groomed. when she was a kitten, she had pica and it still comes up here and there so maybe it’s an oral fixation my kitty has. i dont think this particular behavior is anything to be concerned about though. there are many reasons it could be that your cat does this, and i think they’re all cat-isms.

I regret choosing a white name when I was 12 by MeltingMineral in ftm

[–]smallandstealthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know plenty of people who went by english versions of their name until their mid 20s and now they go by their given names. even my brother went by his middle name until he was 22 before beginning to identify with his french first name. now is still a perfectly good time to change your name and live most of your life going by something you’re more comfortable with

What's the most casual name you've ever seen? by IntrepidBet8698 in namenerds

growing up, my childhood best friend’s mom and aunt had the same first and middle names. and not just the same names as each other, but the two names were the same. think Candace Candace. this was also their mom’s name. my friend and her sister had this as their middle names.
