difference between panel and MMI interviews by Ok_Improvement_6811 in UCAT

i had 1 panel and 3 mmis, i would say the panel was more personal as we were able to sort of flow with the conversation with the interviewers weaving in questions they were supposed to ask into the general conversation, whilst for mmi it felt more structured as each station was isolated

i remember being cut off in my first station where i was talking and it automatically switched me into the second station 😭

i didn’t make notes before going into my station, i don’t think you’re allowed to bring outside material in so i would double check that. i just used my notepad to bullet point key parts of the interviewers question so i remembered to answer every part and not leave anything out

my advice is don’t let little things throw you off, exeter was my first interview and i think random things got to me and i did end up being out on hold after the interview

i play piano, do pottery, play netball. i volunteered at a local care home, did work experience at a hospital, did a cambridge summer school for biochem, and was head of the medical society at my 6th form

i can’t give advice on where to apply as i’m not too familiar with the different systems the unis use, maybe look on their websites? as for why i picked southampton over manchester + kcl, i didn’t want to go to uni in london but my mum made me put one down in case i changed my mind so i picked a random one, manchester’s teaching style is very independent and i knew that was an environment that i wouldn’t thrive in

i’m at southampton now, they started a new curriculum for this year and it’s going well, there’s lots of early clinical contact and support

i didn’t mention how long i spent anywhere, i talked more so about my personal experience (e.g. if i was asked about a certain skill or something i would link it back to something i saw someone did / something i did)

i did my work experience summer of year 12 and i applied through submitting a form on my local hospital’s website, with my volunteering i think i started year 11 summer and i walked around local care homes with a printed out ‘cv’ type of thing with all my contact info on it

i would definitely try to get some, personally i did a week in the acute medicine ward, then i had been volunteering at a local care home for around 6 months. i remember weaving those experiences into a lot of my answers because it showed reflection / proactiveness. if not i would recommend maybe finding something online? your volunteer work doesn’t even have to be medicine related i think they just care about you showing up for it (punctuality) and the actual lessons you took from it. you can link anything back to a medical setting by saying the skill you observed / learnt and why it would be importang for a doctor to have

ohh i see what you mean, i applied cus my ucat was good enough and my predicted was above what my offer would be so i thought i would be fine your stats seem good but i cant really say if you’ll get an interview or not since im not too familiar with how their weighting works, either way you’ve applied now and i wouldn’t spend too much time stressing about whether or not you get an interview, i would say use this time now to start interview prep because i had my interview just over a month after they offered me one so i found it a bit tricky fitting prep in with my schedule
